"Never train when you are angry.....especially not if you're angry at the dog."
Every club should have a rule that any handler that shows anger at their dog on the field should be "put up" and crated before being allowed out again after they cool down.

Ain't THAT the truth. I've seen more dogs set WAY back because the handler couldn't control their temper!!!!!

Watch the field. Thats where you learn. Life is too short to go out there and make all the mistakes.

Steal from the best and forget the rest.

I'll give credit to the great Ivan B for this one... "Being successful will bring you false friends and real enemies... be successful anyway!"

I agree animule and mindhunt.Let me add "whistle while you work".I know this may seem VERY RIDICULOUS.How many that have posted to this thread know how to whistle? Forty years ago give or take..dog whistles were introduced to buy.You could adjust the tone. The gsd is the best tracking dog.Hmm.What are those ears for?

by Mindhunt on 19 July 2008 - 23:07
Rainhaus...those ears are furry air brakes...LOL
At least that was what I thought when mine was a puppy

The only thing that two dog trainers agree on is what the third one is doing wrong

by Mindhunt on 22 July 2008 - 22:07
RatPackKing, I have to admit, that is so true. I have two trainers, both started out with the same mentor at a very young age, were best friends, had many of the same beliefs about mutual respect, positive reinforcement, willingness to learn from each dog, etc. Ended up going their seperate ways many years later as adults when one went into Schutzhund and the other into working K9. Even they can't agree which cracks me up each time.
