Two Moons

by Two Moons on 03 July 2008 - 05:07

Every website you visit aquire's your IP these day's.  Most of them sell whatever info they can gather.

Google certainly track's every keystroke and keep's file's.   They have no problem surrendering information.

Post em, they are no secret really.

You can call me tina, just don't call me Ray.....LOL

Me.

by Do right and fear no one on 03 July 2008 - 06:07

So.  Let's see what we have learned.

Abhay now says that he has at least a half dozen identities on this site.

IP addresses, even though the same, can actually belong to up to 30 or so different people, perhaps hundreds of miles from each other.

Capt. Mike will not be wisking away any of you ladies on his pirate ship and sail the seven seas any time soon.

Man, I am so dissapointed.  No Capt. Mike pirate dude and no "gotcha" on Do Right for being someone else.

I did call it right though, that not only is Abhay several different people, but that I ain't.

Apology accepted.

It would be interesting to know all of the screen names that "he?" has.  Is he/she having conversations with himself on here?  Is he threatening himself for sympathy?  Is he Do Right?  hmmm............................maybe I will confess.

Naw.  I'll let ya'll wonder a little bit longer.

It would be absolutely hillarious if I and Abhay were the same person, wouldn't it

All,

Make no mistake, whatever you plug into, a cable, or a phone line, even wireless, you can be located by those with the power to do so.

Second,

A lot of people here play with multiple identities, and I've seen post's and answer's that were staged for one reason or another.

Finally,

Some people using this board have some serious issue's and obsession's.

I'll move on.

Do Right- Hilarious maybe; Surprising???  Not really.  I wouldn't put it past anyone at this point.  This place is getting more like the Twilight Zone by the minute. lol

TO ALL- I guess what it all boils down to is what type of person you are.  If you are a straight shooter, shoot from the hip, say what you mean mean what you say and stay true to yourself then you will express yourself to everyone regardless of what people may or may not think of you without hiding behind a computer under 10 different alias screen names.

I just think there's too many weirdo's that come through here that first names would be fine but when you start getting personal on a public forum I think one would only be asking for trouble.

Two Moons write:  "You can call me tina, just don't call me Ray.....LOL"

I think two Tina's on one board is more than enough for people to handle. :o)

Animules - So, do you think I put my Black dog on my avatar we can really blow people's minds?? :o)

You will not see any other "stage names" for me here or on ANY other board, anywhere. Always been the K-9mom, don't plan to change anytime soon.

K-9mom, or I could put my sable up for a while.

Actually Abram is a bi-color, can't tell from his head shot though.

Agar, as usual, you make a lot of sense.   But then again, you might be me or I might be you.  Then that would make no sense.  Heck.  We might both be Pod People.  What if ALL OF US, were the same person?  What if Walter was in a cage in the back yard and a GSD was typing this?  Now THAT would be weird.

HaHa

That was a joke tina, go ahead, call me Ray...LOL

You guys have no idea how TCP IP works, esp Watcher.  Do you not understand that the 192 address range is an inside non routable scope? Those addresses are NATed through the ISP, there will always be a front end IP, but can be the same for several people.  ISPs dont have 100s of servers in several locations, and most dont have servers at all, they use Portmasters for the few dialup customers left, it is a hardware solution that uses NAT in most cases to connect people thru a single outgoing line from a single outside IP addy.  Therefore tracking the locally bound IP drom you NIC or router is sort of a useless tasks since it is issued from the ISP.  DHCP is not issues every time the comouter is turned on.  Depending on the size of the DHCP scope a provider can make an IP lease for an hour or for a week.  With high speed now, and most people having routers and firewalls inside their house the IP leases are renewed about every 72 hours and reissued back to the same requestor, however a release renew can get you a new one.

gefauhr:  I am not going to pretend to fully understand your above posting.  I will just ask you the pertinent questions if I may.  The questions that are really the crux of what everyone here wants to know.

Is it possible for two or more different people, in different locations, to have the same IP numbers show up on an internet web site, if the site shows IP numbers for all to view?

If so, then is there a way "around" it?

A way for the same person on the same computer, to circumvent that "problem" and appear to be two or more different people with different IP numbers?

A simple yes or no to the questions would be great, but if you must do the technical speak thing then that would be fine also.

Thanks in advance.  Abhay, er, ah, I mean, Do Right.
