I have to agree IluvmyGSD. Vet bills can be costly and my childs life is not worth a stray. I have had many stays come up from pits, chows, border collies and so on most of the time I can animal controll (have them on speed dail now) but in the past have adopted a few.
I am not willing to risk my dogs or family over a stray reguardless of what breed it is Period.
I would take it to the nearest shelter or rescue invest the gas and get rid of the problem. And for heaven sake don't confront the owners as many wrong things can come about from it. (BEEN THERE DONE THAT - you can NEVER prove it).

I would have to agree with DR&FNO as well. This Pit Bull could make a nice addition to a responsible pet owner, as my bubby did with our family. It makes no sense to kill any animal unless there is a very serious problem with that animal(health, temp, etc). Live traps are very humane and are safe to catch a dog in it.

I agree, Kelly. Unfortunately, if you call your local animal control, chances are the dogs will be euthanized, which is a shame. At least Pit Bull Rescue would attempt to rehabilitate (if necessary), and find a good home for the dog.

still have not seen the dog today....maybe someone else down the road started feeding it and he decided to stay, hopefully this is what happened...but if he, or another comes back, i will call around to see whats the best thing i can do about these dogs, thanks for all the advice everyone.....this is the very reason i wish i could start my own animal rescue/ shelter...we need it so bad here....maybe one day ill win that lottery!

iluvmygsd-I'm with you 100% on this. We had a stray that was definately NOT a pit coming into our yard a while back. I also would not take a chance with my kids or dogs being out when it was there. Animal Control was useless. You catch it and we'll get it they said! They also got their paychecks on Fridays just fine though, I assume. Anyway, I felt like a prisoner too, in my own yard. Who the hell can trust a stray dog? Especially with kids? I actually don't fully trust most dogs I DO know with my kids or dogs. To a dog who is unstable under pressure or not raised with kids they can seem erratic, threatening and prey like. I trust the way I raise my dogs. I don't trust the way other's do most of the time. The majority of owners are uneducated, at best, with dog behavior and common sense. JMHO.
Better safe than sorry with a child's welfare.

Not only do you have to worry about Out of breath Jack chasing Strays and Pits, but sometimes a Tiger or two show up as well. I dont even want to talk about the damn Owl.

Nitro, Thank You so very, very much. Most find me crazy, but I can never have too many pets. I'm afraid some of my children suffer from the same affliction.

abhay -- are those your daughters?...very pretty girls..you must be proud poppa
in the town next to mine, someone was raising tigers at home...they got them takem away tho cause , one got lose and attacked someone...or maybe it attacked one of the handlers...was a few years ago, cant really remember...
people raise all kinds of weird things here to, or atleast they use to before pet rules got so strict.....it was normal for people to have pet gators--(this is louisiana) when i was a kid we use to have deer...i remember one my dad brought home, it was tangled in a barb wire fence and my dad and his friends cut it loose (and got pretty cut up themselves in the process-)...we put it the big old chicken coop behind the house and us kids would feed it apple peelin's through the slits in the wall...soon it was coming out of the shed and into the pen area and eating out of our hands, but not long after that it was healthy enough so my dad said we had to let it go
..i was pretty upset about it...
then once my mom found one on the side of the road, couldnt have been more than 2 days old, still had its spots and couldnt really walk yet, we think the mom must have gotten hit by a car r something....but the poor thing had maggots on its butt from mom not being there to clean...so my mom brought it to a man that raise deer/ farm vet i think...they got it cleaned up and my mom brought it home for me to take care of....i had to bottle feed goat milk.....it would follow me all around the yard like a puppy--with my dogs, they treated it like it was one of them- never attacked at all...i bet that was a funny sight...lol..me walking around with about 5 dogs and a spotted fawn...I had it for about 3 weeks , it died in the pen somehow, it jumped on top the doghouse and fell in between the house and the fence, i think it broke its neck
..
.I alot about that one...

Thank You iluvmyGSD, yes, those are two of my daughters. I would have loved to see you and the fawn with the dogs all in a pack. That would have been a great pic.
