zdog: "Most of the time people pay that amount of money so they can feel better about themselves and it often has NOTHING to do with the welfare of the dog" Wow. What a stupid statement. It sure exposes a measure of your character, and I sure don't mean that in the nicest way.

by Blitzen on 09 April 2007 - 17:04

Zdog, Anyone could raise a dog on $600 per month if that were their only expense. I resent your suggesting that I'm bragging about being able to spent 3 K to have my dog treated for cancer. Not that it's any of your business, I had to use a credit card, he died anywyay and I still miss him a lot. The point that you obviously chose to ignore was unexpected expenses can and do happen where dogs are concerned and if a breeder is kind enough to accept time payments from a person on a limited income then it might be a good idea to also try to help them out in a medical emergency.

****Drakegsd, If you read her post again... she volunteered to disclosed her living income in public, therefor she made it our business. Nobody forced her to do this. How on earth can you take care of a German Shepherd with an income of $623 a month? I'm not trying to be rude about this, just a legitimate and valid question.*** Brittany, I am amused how quickly you jump on this "she disclosed her information in public and made it our business" wagon. And yet on multiple occasions in the past YOU disclosed personal info and got slammed for it - if I remember correctly you were not too happy about it. You want to know how she can take care of a GSD on a limited income??? Ok I am going to disclose some personal info here myself... 13 years ago I was 18 and immigrated to this country with my parents. We had to leave Russia almost overnight due to very violent political situation so we didnt have a dime to our name. But we did bring our 2 collies with us because they were a part of our family. My parents didnt speak English so they couldnt find any jobs and I was the only one working. I brought home measly $5.50/hour... but guess what! My dogs got all the attention that they needed. When my older male got sick he got the treatment that was needed although it did set my bills back a few months. But once I took care of him I caught up on my bills... Such is life, you do what you need to do... I think your heart is in the right place but you just cant jump down peoples throats without knowing all the details...

Brit-- I stand properly rebuked. You're correct in stating that it is your right to defend your dogs if you should so feel the need---my mistake. I do usually 'see the big picture'--that's what always gets me in trouble. Keep up the good work with your dogs.

by Blitzen on 09 April 2007 - 18:04

Drake, your life experiences with your dogs have made you into the kind person you are today.

by zdog on 09 April 2007 - 18:04

ohh, sue, I feel so badly now, you don't approve. Oh well. My character measures up just fine, and generally I try not to make those assumptions by a two sentence post on a message board, but to each his won Blitzen, sorry, my post wasn't directed at you. The 3K was really just an abitrary number. It seems to be popping up on message boards all over that this person paid 3K for this and 3K for that and if you're not able or willing to you are a bad owner. Really I think that attitude sucks. I gues it seemed directed at you, but it wasn't. If you're able to and want to, great. I"m sorry, for your loss, but I do not regret saying what I did.

Yeah zdog, me & probably everyone else who read that ridiculous comment.

Brittany, I feed Iams which is $27 at Sam's Club. 46# bag lasts 6 weeks with this dog. My boyfriend pays the rent so I have no other bills other than once a year vet, which is usually $50. I lost my best friend of eight years last year, she and I were homeless together several times and all she cared about was being with me. Just because I am disability does not mean I cannot provide the basic needs for my animals. I have 3 cats, 4 fish, 1 hamster, and 15 rats. They are all very well fed and quite happy. If something suddenly happens, I have good credit with the vet who once did $500 treatment on my ex's dog with no money down. The breeder I heard from last year said she bought an imported puppy from Larry. He got half the money for selling it for someone else. She said it didn't care at all for them, wasnt people oriented, worst dog they ever had. Het, I did not say therapy dog in Psych ward. I said psychiatric service dog, meaning for personal use. Dog's job is to accompany me everywhere to help me with anxiety. Shelley Strohl, I am glad you approve of Steve and Connie. No, they are not offering anything other than selling me the puppy, though when I did pick up Nenz she offered me a bunch of free dog food samples. LMH, if you ever got raped or went through half the stuff I did when I hit the streets at 16, rejected by my family because I wasn't perfect, maybe you would understand why a very anxious person paired with an even more anxious dog is not a good idea. She was so stressed with me but she settled nicely into her current home where she is loved and not much asked of her, sleeping on the couch, and long walks in the woods out back. To All Yes, I did make a mistake. Obviously someone who has a lot of dogs won't have time to work with them all. I am not slamming Larry, was just curious as to others' thoughts. He seemed nice and I have heard his dogs worked out for others, just not me personally.

by LMH on 12 April 2007 - 18:04

ilovemygsdnenz-- I just read your last post on this thread. I was very hard on you, and I'm not proud of that fact. Sometimes, I don't follow my own beliefs---each case should be viewed on it's "own" individual merits and flaws. I'm relieved to hear the dog who initiated my cynicism has found a loving home. The only excuse I can offer for my outburst is that I see *red* when people find a dog unsuitable---my problem and the dogs', (certainly not your's). There are legitimate reasons dogs are returned to breeders, or rehomed. There are just as many ridiculous ones. I know myself well enough that 'any' reason is always going to be a sore subject with me. Forget my post, and enjoy Nenz.

I would like to thank everybody who e-mailed me and privately shared their thoughts concerning both Jerland and Steve and Connie Miller. I was interested to hear from one person that Jerland had 20 litters of puppies available at one time recently. I myself raise pet rats and am unable to personally play with all 14 of them, so most of the unsocialized ones are fearful and squeak when handled. The ones my daughter frequently drag out and haul around the house are tame as tame can be. The patriarch, Tanner, frequently eats blueberries and other things from my daughter's bowl as she sits on the couch..... Well I have nothing more to say.LMH I appreciate your last post.
