Centurian: " This thread is to over generalized. If one wants to talk about specific traits that best make a LE canine - fine . If one discusses the best traits that make for a sport canine fine . But discussing them together is like comparing apples to oranges. "
Out of my experience that´s not true. For me there is no "apples and oranges". very simplified said there are suitable dogs and not suitable dogs. The final dog? Always the result of nature and nurture, no matter the later "job".
"The best traits" ? - Almost similar for both LE and sport... Everything else? Proper training.
Otherwise I am with VK, any video is better than nothing, and the more videos, the better the spectator is able to distinguish, but finally it´s about experience, and it´s about personal preferences.
You are able to show a mediocre bitework video to some ( ? ) people and they will be more than impressed.
Why? Because they don´t know better -but they will never know better, because they don´t want to get involved ( train by themselves, learn about the differences ), but people who DO care about training ARE able to see differences.
The original video was created by a dog trainer with the goal to get new clients / to make money = You need to train your dogs, otherwise they won´t defend you, no matter the titles, no matter the genetics .
The dogs shown in this video may be very good dogs, but they simply are not used to the scenario ( due to raising, socialization, and training in our "modern" world ). They had to "behave" for all their life, they had to tolerate 100s of guests, and now all of a sudden they have to "defend" the property ?!?
Come on.................

The original post is about protection dogs, not LE dogs. It is always refreshing to go to forums and read where non LE trainers know more about LE dogs and their training than LE trainers.

Centurian talked about "LE" dogs - I made a comment .
Afterwards I talked about the video.
What is your point? Did I miss something?

todays ideal sport prospect requires quite a bit different qualities than the ideal LE dog
Ideal protectiondog also requires different balance of drives however there are many people who would call a trained sportdog with a bark on command a protectiondog
sportdog ; high fooddrive, high preydrive ,full calm grip-- no sharpnes or civil, not hard/stubborn, must respond to correction CAN be environmental less stable as it will only be exposed to trained situations, open caracter/no suspicion
LE dog (dual purpose ) ideal is balanced preydrive/civil agression, must be hard dog and environmental solid as it will be exposed to untrained situations all the time,
Protectiondog MUST have civil agression/suspicion, dont need full calm grip, not stubborn/good trainable
Im not saying dogs with other buildups cannot and are not being trained in different disciplines as also not every sport or LE person likes the same type of dog

Thanks for making up your own ideal just for the purpose of pointing out flaws in the ideal. That's real neat.
So what an LE dog must NOT respond to correction??
An IDEAL sport dog has crap nerves because it can???
No sport people like sharp or civil dogs?
Not worth pointing out the remaining stupidity.
Yes the health, grips, trainability, drive, speed, aggression, nose, agility, nerves, clarity.....etc in the IDEAL sport dog is certainly not want you want in a police dog package.
.....sheeeesh where do you get yr info from??
There are no police dog breeders, people breed dogs some of which end up as LE, sport, pet....
No puppy in the history of the breed was born a police dog.
The so called real dog crowd rely 100% on sport to exist to see what's happening in the lines.
