Cthulhu

clc29, i tried to make it clear that this was not MY opinion or comment. I do not have the experience or the first hand information to be able to make that statement. I was merely sharing what some people out there have said, not implying that it is true or not. I was hoping some of you experts would either confirm or bust the statement, or provide some other insight.

Would love to hear more about his puppies (and Drago himself).  How about hardness, biddability, lines he has been crossed with best so far?  High thresholds? Defense vs prey drive, etc.

He's in Alabama. Yes he went back to Germany for the summer and did a LOT of repeat breedings (which suggests that everyone was very happy with the last breedings of his). If you don't know the dogs for certain, and you don't want anyone to "shoot the messanger", then I suggest you keep your comments to yourself. Sounds like jealousy. I know this dog personally, get to train with him often, get to see a lot of his progeny, and they're great. Now you're right, that a lot are still young, and time will tell, but they're explosive in drives, solid nerves, confident, great conformation. And you're right, he can't produce world class with all females, but I've seen him produce with some females that were mediocre and the puppies were absolutely phenomenal, the breeder kept back 2 or 3.

Extremely hard. Most of his pups are very hard. I saw one that just turned 6 months doing a bark and hold in a blind, and biting full and extremely hard on an intermediate sleeve this past weekend. Extremely nice puppy. You could put him under pressure and he never changed. He was like that though at 12 weeks. Love what I'm seeing from him.

I've never gotten a chance to meet this dog, sounds like I might want to, but then I have enough on my plate now so i guess it isn't that big of deal.  Anyway, I have to say that a dog having its "nerves wake up" after 18 months isn't something I encounter very often.  If they aren't solid, it's generally obvious from the get go, well before they hit 12 months even.  I have had plenty of dogs who go up in intensity and drive later in life than others.  That wouldn't surprise me.  I've also seen dogs from other places that come way down from rote repetition and boredom after a couple years.  Or the training has been very heavy and a clear confident dog has, overtime, started to look unsure and not as strong.  But that was training, not the dog.  GIven a chance to succeed with fair training, they light right back up again.

I'm definitely breeding my girl to Drago later 2014 to keep 2 puppies myself. I really like what's coming from him thus far.

http://www.working-dog.eu/dog/mostviewed?showType=1&raceText=German+Shepherd+Dog&raceId=2%3B  Looks like youngest most viewed German Shepherd to date. Some older dogs have more views.
