I just wanted to give my sincerest apologies for offending everyone.  Truly!  It was not my intention to judge or offend - honestly.  It was a personal opinion, which obviously caused controversy.  I regret that.

Again, please accept my apologies.  I'm not a crass, rude or ignorant person.  I do learn from my mistakes.  It will not happen again.

you just happened to step into a never ending debate for your first post. just lucky I guess.Teeth Smile

anyway, glad to see you still around and no harm done. you obviously weren't trolling so forget about it, like the dogs you like and no need to apoligize for it.

best,
Rik

k9gsdlvr,  listen to the naked chicken !

Rik's right,  you were very unfortunate to walk into the middle
of this regular battle.  Please don't let it put you off the PDB,
all views are truly welcome, honestly.  I don't see much
evidence of you having really pissed people off on this thred
anyway - you should see how vitriolic the rows CAN get !

I was just reading another topic that was about how good the
board can be - what a nice sentiment to read after all the
stuff about how horrible members all are, that we often get.

What Hundmutter said, and..

What should be taken away from your first post is that you would like a healthy animal to have in your life. That is something everyone on here should be able to respect. Maybe the words you chose weren't perfect, but we should have been big enough to know what you meant.

Hope you find the perfect GSD for you ;).

Please don't get discouraged K9. It gets nuts on these forums. You asked a perfectly good question. Lot of good info to be learned here. Just put your seatbelt on. Take care. Pete

k9gsdlvr, you have nothing to apologize for. Some of the rude folks here ought to apologize for their nasty response to a perfectly reasonable question. Don't take it personal because they crap all over anyone who wants the type of GSD that you want. But lots of us myself included want that type of GSD.

BTW that juvenile "perfect dog = Lhasa" stunt has been pulled here before.

You might try Patchwork Shepherds because they breed the GSD type you seem to be looking for and they have an excellent guarantee. I know a couple of people who are real happy with their Patchwork GSDs but I haven't met the dogs.  Royalair also produces some excellent GSDs of this type but they have a very long waiting list and never seem to have any returned adult dogs. I've met a few Royalair pups and they were real impressive. Bright, social, curious, calm and well structured. They do breed for big GSDs though.

Eurosport K9 has great GSDs some of which are more laid back. A friend of mine got his GSD from them and he is the best damn dog I've seen in years (other than my GSD of course). He has a nice old-fashioned structure and is an unflappable, calm, take-anywhere kind of GSD. They were totally honest about the dog's temperament and didn't try to pawn anything off on him. The only downside is that the dogs are in Slovakia, so with the shipping added to the price of the dog or pup, it's not cheap. Well worth it if you have the money though. For what you want I think they're the best bet if you have the bucks. Just make it real clear that you want a more laid back personality.

You do want to be careful picking a breeder whatever GSD type they breed. There are a lot of scammers that tell you whatever you want to hear just to pawn a pup off on you.

I hope you come back with pics to share when you get your GSD. I would love to see the pics and hear about the dog or pup.

@k9gsdlvr....there is no need to apologize....your question and opinions were honest and understood by many. There are many old and young cranky bitter defensive people on the forum these days. If the topic isn't about what they like or think, they are often short with people or critical.....we just gloss over their posts. Continue to inquire and share....others will be supportive.

Royalaire and Patchwork both produce OVERSIZED GSDs, which are much maligned on these boards, because they advertise their dogs as being the 'old fashioned, straight-backed' style dog you are looking for.

Not so. The breed standard never said GSDs were to be over 100 lbs. Yet these breeders brag about how heavy their dogs are! (Some are grossly overweight, in addition to being taller than the breed standard!)

HOWEVER, some of these breeders do their best to 'do things right'. Some of their dogs have performance titles, and are hip and elbow x-rayed. Royalair has some of the Shiloh foundation GSDs in their pedigrees, and Tina Barber would often recommend them to someone who wanted a GSD and not a Shiloh, as they bred their dogs very carefully.

I remember there was a thread on here about Patchwork that got very nasty, though I forget the details as to what the problem was with their dogs.

Caveat emptor, as always!  If you don't mind a dog that is much bigger than the breed standard, Royalair would we worth checking out.

I'm sorry, but the Lhasa was funny. Come on! Click on something titled "perfect dog" expecting some GSD and up pops a little fluffy dog. That put a smile on my face. For the record, I like little dogs and big dogs (before anyone jumps on me saying I must hate little dogs).

That said, I am confused now. K9gsdlvr are you wanting an oversized dog? Or just a GSD with a straight back and not as extreme? Most working lines I have seen are straight in the back and not usually extreme. There are even many German show lines who are straighter in the back and not roached.

However, most of the time when I hear "old fashioned GSD" it's coming from the people breeding giant, oversized GSDs. If they wish to do that, it's their decision. MY Issue is with the term, because there is nothing old fashioned about them.
