That was once the statement on the front page of his website. And he may very well have a new "hardest dog I've ever owned" now.
There are a few different ideas about what hardness means to some folks, and some I don't accept. But, what I've seen through Max is the ability work through increased pressure and physical discomforts while maintaining focus and drive. I've admittedly known a few "hard" dogs that didn't have much in the way of focus or drive, though I'm experiencing no shortage of it through breeding on Max. It should be obvious to everyone that hardness alone, isn't enough.

Daryl, you know that Koos did't use Max only with Quick? Catch isn't the only one he has out of Max! There is Escha and Ziggy, they are both out of Max x Noery! And he has Radja who is a Catch daughter so doesn't seems to me that it all rests in the shoulders of Catch! ;-)

Fair enough :-) His breeding with Quick was basically the lineup that I favored most, and felt had the best potential. I shouldn't detract from other fine dogs produced, but for ME personally, I would not have wanted a Tiekerhook dog from any other breeding in the last five years. The 2-2 on Nick sparked some interest, and I would have liked to try, but would never for any price trade the dog I'm so fortunate to have.

IMO Max produced better with Noery and when you compare the zw n.º and the hips scores with the dogs out of him with Quick there is a diference. Most of the MxQ dogs are Fast normal and have a ZW nº around 98, Hasca who's from the same litter of Hutch has a zw of 108 and her hips are rated "noch zugelassen" and when you look at the dogs out of MxN they have a zw under 80 and have their hips rated normal. Catch, Ziggy and Escha are all excellent dogs but if i had to choose a son of Max i would choose 1 out of Noery.

Well, I think that's a fair argument and don't mean to disrespect, but I have to say that ZW scores are unworthy of my attention. Not much different than averaging all the ancestor's and near relative's schutzhund scores, and thinking that will get you somewhere.
I don't hold in low regard for the alternatives you're suggesting, and hips are certainly important in any breeding, but there is much else to consider as well. And there is simply no valid evidence that ZW scores are improving the breed since their implementation.

This one scores a pretty high "COI", haha. I haven't yet, but as workingdogz chastised me for on some other thread, I will eventually get to my plans of conducting a father-daughter inbreeding of my Max son.
