Spooks: then you must be an idiot - you are certainly also a coward, hiding your identity. very brave of you to write on here anonymously. I suppose your true identity would be too revealing and cause laughter and snigger's to many. negative comments on this cess pit of a forum have absolutely ZERO effect on me or on Videx GSD. I frequently wish they would, I am inundated with requests for help, advice, and information. At 65 years of age, with 35+ year of vast experience in all aspects of the GSD, and an IQ level that absorbs information like a sponge and analyses it like a computer, is it no wonder that I hold anonymous prats like you and others, who clearly have only abject ignorance and cowardice to offer anyone,in such contempt. You are simply garbage in my eyes and my mind, and not even worthy of recycling. Never has there been clearer examples of the saying "empty vessels make most noise" than you and far too many others who fester on this forum.

The greatest improvement we could offer our intelligent GSD breed is to STOP idiots from owning one. Prospective owners should require an IQ of 125 or above.

Doris
I echo Carole's sentiments, a really good decision, for you, your dog and the breed in general. Yes it is shocking to see what some breeders get up to, but at least you've done the right thing and chosen not to join them.

Looking at the last post perhaps it's best you didn't get a 'response' from Videx LOL.

I see your arrogant attitude hasn't improved one iota at all, If anything it has worsened with age. FYI I am not hiding behind any anonymity hiding my identity. I have no need to as I am speaking the truth. I am known as Spooks on many forums, backed up by my proper name. So your alleged IQ level has let you down Mr Payne. If you care to go through the information you allege to absorb like a sponge you will find in the depths of the vacuous space between your ears, the fact I had a severely dysplastic pup sired by one of your stud dogs, it also has a heart condition caused by an auto-immune condition which you explain in great depth on your website!

I didn't take kindly to being shouted at by an old sot, when I rang you with my concerns when the pup was 8 months old and I was extremely polite when I rang, more than can be said about you. So do forgive me for questioning Dale M about the integrity of your character.

Personally I don't give a rat's arse if you have had 135 yrs of  vast experience in all aspects of the GSD, or an IQ level that absorbs information like a sponge and analyses it like a computer. Is that meant to impress people perchance? It certainly doesn't make you a more likable person.  I have heard you called far stronger words than idiot, prat, garbage blah blah. It is correct what people say about you and the reason why you won't face up to the accusations from members of this forum.

'Empty vessels make most noise', is that so Mr Payne? How hypocritical.

@ Videx
The greatest improvement we could offer our intelligent GSD breed is to STOP idiots from owning  breeding them with high hip scores!
Prospective owners should require an IQ of 125 or above
Hell, I am well qualified then to own one, as I have a Mensa IQ of 154 but I don't see the need to brag about it.

Only one idiot on this topic Mr Payne and that's you!

Spooks
Sorry to hear you have such problems with your dog.

I havea dog with a score of 48, and my breeder was entirely supportive, and helped with loads of advice, and we have become friends, and still are 8 years later. my girl by the way is doing just great and swims regularly and is on mild medication.  They were hugely disappointed that she had HD, but when I had spoken to them before deciding upon them as breeders, we discussed HD in some depth, and they were careful to make sure I understood that the best of scores can produce dysplastic pups. I was just unlucky, one of her litter sisters had a fantastic score, and it could have been her that I chose. I didn't but certainly have no regrets over my puppy pick, as she is the most fantastic dog. There were good scores right back in the lines too.

It's bad enough when these health problems arise, as we obviously care deeply and worry about our dog's well being, but how the breeder supports the owner (and the dog they produced) is so fundamental to being a *good* breeder rather than just *somewone who breeds dogs*.

Was the owner of the bitch any more supportive?

Hi Abby, yes the breeder was genuinely distraught when told and was most helpful and supportive and offered me pick of the next litter from the next dog he bred from, I didn't take him up on this offer as I wasn't in a position then to have 2 dogs, the same for the breeders of the dam when I approached them too, extremely helpful, informative and supportive. Neither had anything to hide from me.

I didn't bother getting my dog hip scored, I was told it would be a waste of money as her hip x-rays showed at only 8 months how severe the HD was and even certainly an 'idiot with an IQ of lower than 125' would be able to see it and it would be prudent for me to save my money towards treatment she would need in the future.

Like you I have a fantastic dog, super intelligent with a super temperament and I wouldn't swap her for the world, I just find it heart- breaking each time something else is diagnosed wrong with her and she still soldiers on.

To Videx aka Mr Payne

Please don't be so rude as to send me a PM demanding things, then block me from replying. Very immature of you.
I told you I was not hiding behind an identity, so well done for your search on Google, but are you any the wiser as you more than likely wouldn't remember me from nearly 8 years ago?  Actually, don't bother to answer that, as I am done with you and accordingly have blocked you too. I don't want to relive the heartbreak I have been through for nearly 8 years - so please respect that and sod off. Idiot!

I'm so glad you got the genuine support of the other people involved in the breeding of your girl.  It is heartbreaking when they have more than one health issue to cope wiht, my first ever GSD was like that. She sounds as though she has the right owner, and I have found that this adversity makes the bond between you and your dog incredibly strong. I wish you and your girl the best in all that you do.

What is ironic is that many breeders actually don't know what it is like to have and love a dog with these difficulties, because they (especially commercial breeders) do not keep them if they find any kind of a disorder, but withdraw them from their programme (if they are ethical) and then find them 'pet' homes.

BTW, Videx sending PMs and then blocking people from replying is his standard modus operandi. I found the best solution when he did it to me was a) advise him that I would post his PMs to me on the forum for everyone to see, and b) I actually replied to something he sent on the board after he blocked me. That is also what I will do in the future if he PM's me again, simply post it on the forum.

Thanks Abby, that is appreciated and it does make for a stronger bonding.

What is ironic is that many breeders actually don't know what it is like to have and love a dog with these difficulties, because they (especially commercial breeders) do not keep them if they find any kind of a disorder, but withdraw them from their programme (if they are ethical) and then find them 'pet' homes

Or the other altenative option, put them to sleep, as the cost of medication would be high, although a dog could lead a perfectly normal-ish life, even though on expensive meds.

BTW, Videx sending PMs and then blocking people from replying is his standard modus operandi. I am hoping he respects my last comment to sod off. I have no wish to discuss anything with such an obnoxious person. I have avoided posting or joining in anywhere for nearly 8 years where he has had an input, so I didn't realise that was his MO. I bet he got bullied a lot as a child.

Shame I wasted my time typing out a reply to him to find he had blocked any reply to him. His super sleuthing has found out one of my lesser email addresses too, one I rarely use, so will be interesting to see what I receive in there, an IQ of 125 wouldn't be needed if anything suspicious starts to happens in it
