I don't know how this topic morphed into this, but I think things are different than they used to be. Men are asked to do more than they used to. Women work more and are more independent. I think the independence on both halves probably has a little to do with divorce. I grew up in an old school home where it was as Y.R. Described, but I don't think that is the norm here in the US today.

Don, I agree lets get this back on topic or start a new thread. I do not think this is the direction the op intended.

Merry Christmas everyone.

GSD

It is all about respect in my mind.  Respecting a dog, respecting a person, respecting yourself.

Would you end a training session on a bad note? Hopefully….No

What kind of bad note ? I have had days where it starts going bad, and I just stop and go back in the house and we just start over again tomorrow.

I usually am not punishing for a bad day. Sometimes the dog wants to push all my buttons, sometimes the dog doesn't seem to know what I am talking about, as we are in that in between stage where it is possible that the dog doesn't know what it going on.

Sometimes I get frustrated too easily, and just call it a day. No need to work anything out, just walk back to the truck, or the house, and put the dog away, or let him hang out. Depending on if it was me that was screwing up. I do not feel the need to keep going ALL the time when things go bad.

Sometimes I go back out, and do something simple. These are usually good training sessions, as I get my head right, get everything set up again, and re-work my plan so that hopefully it goes real smooth.

Determining whether your dog is a  calm submissive dog or a Cautious dog is first thing to learn. It is hard to train an inexperienced handler to quickly respond to  any or the more desireable behaviours and simply ignore  the undesired behaviours and quickly REINFORCE the good or better ones.

Rewarding a dog for keeping his four paws on the ground ,with a food treat and attention , when approaching or entering his kennel, instead of letting him jump on the cage front and barking like mad.., is one example of positive training with out the hitting, swatting, yelling or yanking on the neck  of dog.

Positive Training rocks.

I assumed the poster of thread was comparing corrections of our dogs to the correcting of us on the forum   but the phsychology is still the same concept..
