DebiSue, I am so sorry to hear the upsetting news. I understand your heartache and disappointment.  I purchased a WL pup years ago- Reputable breeder, excellent pedigree and good hips throughout the bloodlines. So, you just never know. Unfortunately it is a gamble in the best of circumstances. On the positive side we fostered a severely dysplastic Dutchie for 2 years...but he didn't know it.  He was amazing and was as athletic as they come. He lived to be13 years old. What I believed helped him a lot was swimming. He swam in our pool daily (we live in Florida) and he developed a lot of muscle mass in his hind end. He showed no signs of a problem until his last few years of life and even then he responded well to meds. Overall he had a wonderful quality of life until the very end. Echo is a very talented and beautiful dog and she may never be symptomatic. Continue to enjoy and have fun with her!
The best,
Char

DebSue,

All I can say is I'm so so sorry to hear of the news. I hope that with everyones' concerns and comments that you'll receieve some level of comfort? Say hi to Echo and give her a steak from me!

If I can ask on this thread ? I'm hearing at two times to get Xrays? A prelim at what age?
And the second set I believe is what is sent in? Are the elbows taken at the time of the second set? Are these the same as a "Pen hip"? And when some say to even end in the negative ones? Is there an age when you wouldn't have Xrays taken? I keep reading or hearing how easily a vet can position the dog wrong. If you don't have the knowledge or expertise than how are you going to notice the error?

And again, I'm sorry.

alboe, there are good examples on the PDB showing what you want and what you don't want to see in the hips.  You can study these and tell how the dog should be positioned and if the hips are bad (if obvious to the untrained eye)  I haven't sent Echo's in yet but I will so there is a record of the breeder producing bad hips.
Right now I am recovering (finacially) from the Vet's bill for Echo's spay job.  I "rediscovered" a good Vet and took Echo in on Thursday and she was spayed on Friday.  I was allowed to watch the procedure and to sit with her in recovery.  She is happy to be home, sore but so far no complications.  She is being spoiled rotten by being allowed on the couch which is a big no-no at our house.   She put her chin on the couch and whined so I said why not.  If she feels like the jump up there, go for it.  I have since told her the couch is off limits so she is actually taken over the love seat.  Eventually I will move her back to the floor or her bed once I buy her one.  I stopped buying bedding for her because she likes to shred them.  Maybe now she will appreciate it.
She had early stages of pyometra so it's a good thing we spayed her when we did.  She also had loads of eggs.  The vet said had we spayed her, it would have been a huge litter.  WHEW!  Dodged a bullet there!
