Prager, I have a hypothetical question for you.  If a kennel is alleged to have had a recent  parvo outbreak and they also own BSP champion dogs, let's say they were passing through town with the dogs and wanted to stay at your kennels for the night. Assuming you have the room (and we know your wife is a great cook and you both are very hospitable), what would you do? Would you want to know if they shared the same kennel areas as the puppies? If there are protocols for prevention that are being followed?

AGAIN: This is just a "what if."  Care to comment?

PS: I have no motive to 'breeder bash",  just to be clear for the peanut gallery.

With regrets, I would not let anyone who went trough parvo with their dogs stay or come too  my kennel and vice versa  I woul'd not alow anyone to come to my kennel if I had parvo here.

"One of the reasons why Czech GSD lines have better immune system is that the dogs until recently were not immunized."

Prager, I should share this with you.  A couple years ago, I sold a Faro Policia pup to a client who was explicitly told NOT to take the pup out to public places until it was older, given that the specific community was known to have rampant case of parvo.  Against our advice, somewhere between 9 and 12 weeks old, the pup was taken to the local schoolground for training, whereafter it became mildly sick.  It was taken to the vet for an examination, where several other animals that had contracted parvo were being witheld for treatment and observation.  After testing positive, the vet released the pup to go home with it's owner stating that "that's the healthiest pup I've ever diagnosed with parvo!"

That makes my day to hear that! That pup should be bred.

I always tell people not to let their dog out of the crate at the airport after they get it. And try to do your own shots without taking pup to the vet.

This is what we started doing - giving our pups their shots without taking them to vet or having him come to us.
I think it is ridiculous to make those people guilty for having a parvo outbreak. You can easily bring it to your kennel without knowing about that - there are lots of people walking their dogs everyday in the streets. You would have to stay at home all the time when you have puppies, not letting anyone go to your place which I think is a nonsense.

I knew a sled dog guy in Wyoming. He was breeding sled dogs and was getting ready for Iditarod. He never immunized his pups with explanation that he wants to have dogs only with strongest possible immune system. He said when i am in middle of Alaska or Canada where he was training I do not want put my life on dogs which can get sick because they have poor immune system.
