Which is a pity Moons. A huge pity. They deserved way more than what they got. I know alot of Vietnam vets that were treated like shit. And that saddens me greatly. Those people who treated you guys like crap are still out there screaming and protesting soldier's funerals.
The people responsible, many still hold office today.
To them, its about numbers, percentages, politics, they don't see faces.
Well maybe not so many still in office today, its been a long time.
Which, whether you agree with me or not, I feel everyone should have to serve at least 2 years in the military, as enlisted not officer. I do not think anyone should be able to hold office and make decisions if they have never had to make the personal sacrifices so many others have.
BTW, I plan on both of my kids serving in the military and have been raising them knowing it is their duty to their country and every right that goes with it.
I'm not saying that all military personnel are irresponsible with their pets. But a large proportion of them ARE, and I don't take those kinds of risks with my puppies. I have to try to calculate which person will most likely be a forever home, and the military just isn't at the top. I feel very bad about that...it's like profiling. But no way do I EVER want to get a call that one of my dogs has been picked up by AC, so I have to take the best route to achieving that. Yes, I admit I'm a terrible person. But the truth is that as far as prospective owners...I have LOTS of prejudices. Not just against the military.
Man you just lost me.............
Your kids might have other ideas.
Jesus !!
Some people are just plain scary.
My heartfelt Thanks to ALL who serve our Country. The Service Man and Woman sacrifice so much and get so little in return. Bless you.
So, just for S&G's, what would you have done if I contacted you about wanting a pup, informed you I was in the military, but also gave you several references as well as vet paperwork, training paperwork, etc. Also, the fact that I have already carefully chosen the trainer and the Schutzhund club. Would you still outright deny me because I am in the military?
Moons, why is it scary? Would you rather the country NOT have a military? Freedom isn't free. I love the military. My kids have grown up in the military. They love it too.
No, jaggirl, I probably would not. But I would want the name of the person who would assume care of the dog while you were gone, and I'd want it on the contract. If the person backed out, I would take the dog back with no refund.
LOL. I would probably do what I did last time I deployed when I was a single mom. Find an awesome kennel who works well with long-term boarding that has special programs to keep them happy. I had to board my boy for 18 months. Did I like it? Of course not. However, he was very happy, I emailed back and forth frequently, got weekly pictures, and he was happy as hell to come home to me. It sickens me to see craigslist and the whole I'm moving cause of the military and blah blah. But not all of us are like that. We are moving in 5 months to a new base. My boy, as well as my 2 crazy cats and my fish, are coming with us. I would no way in hell levae them behind. They are my family just as much as my children.
Oh, and my hubby and I are both enlisted, not high ranking. We actually treat our animals better than the majority of high ranking officers I know do.
