There were definitely a good handful of people videoing the courage tests , a few with small video camera's and one chap with a large pro looking video camera. I know there were also a good number of people who photographed the entire protection phases also.

Always with the derogatory comments.  Apparently a number of people shot video.  Just because they don't share it with YOU, or me, or anyone besides their own friends doesn't mean it's some big super-secret conspiracy.

From what people WHO WERE THERE said, it wasn't just a little rain, but plenty of lightning and thunder - not surprising that maybe this time some people didn't want to stand in the lightning and shoot video.  But nope, people here, who couldn't bother attending, are all up in arms that other people didn't go out in the storm to do their work for them, and then act as though just because They haven't seen any videos, therefore no video must have been taken.  Ridiculous.

Just to clarify, there was no rain at all during the males protection session and the only rain that happened was at the second to the last female protection session.

There was lots of rain during conformation.

from what I have been told by Multiple people WHO WERE at the show, the performance tests on alot of the males sucked, alot should have failed who were given pronounced and even a couple of the VA males should have failed performance test.  so WHY WOULD people with video's of these dogs post them for everyone else to see BUT their own friends and family.

You are seriously overstating the Uber's post.  No one even suggested that there was some "conspiracy." There simply is not, as more usual than not, any video of the performance portion of the event.  No one is "up in arms" that others did not make  video available. It is unusual when it is available, as it was last year.

My statement was simply a statement of fact:  Rain does not stop us from videoing training, trials, or anything else in the PNW.  If we stopped for the rain, we would never be able to do anything.  So, we do video with the cameras (especially the new, really small ones) in baggies (quart size works for all but the professional-sized cameras) and photogs use them for still cameras, as well.  Some folks don't even let the rain stop them from chatting on cell phones in the rain--without "protection."  (Dumb move in my book--rain really will kill the cell phones).

Now, SNOW, that will stop us in our tracks, pronto!!

Just to clarify: My post was to Uber's post prior to the one immediately above mine, which appears to have been posted at the same time.

I don't consider it ridiculous to ask to see videos of a MAJOR dog show for North America.  these are the TOP males in the country now, ones who will be getting alot of breedings,  it just concerns me what I have heard.  these are the best of the best supposedly.  if what I have heard is not true than the video's would show that.

but the video's might also show the dogs mistakes and that some might not of been worthy of the VA they received.

by TessJ10 on 28 April 2009 - 22:04

Nope, UL, you're definitely making cracks.  Of course it's not ridiculous to want to see videos, but that's not what you said.  You said "so, no one has any videos.  sounds about right."  Not the same thing at all as "asking to see videos" - so what did you mean by "sounds about right"?  Please explain.

by TessJ10 on 28 April 2009 - 22:04

Just to make it clear: I, too, want to see the videos.  Videos of poor performances by VA or V dogs should be shown to everyone.  IMHO it's the best way to fix the problem.  Although I'd like to see the trainers/handlers bashed and not the dogs, because it's my theory that you can take a good dog and crush even a GOOD dog into belly-crawling submission by a number of means.  Most obviously an e-collar.  I'd hope that people remember that and come down harder on the owner & handler than the dog.  Showing videos of all performances I truly believe will help the breed.

There's a dog that I heard was a crawler this year that certainly wasn't last year, plus I'd seen this dog work 2 years ago and he was GOOD.  So what happened? I think that SS people are being careless and not paying attention to the protection phase - they just aren't spending the necessary time on it, because they haven't needed to (big problem) and the result is crappy, untrained performances, or else a passing performance but the dog is showing that instead of spending the proper amount of time training, handlers didn't bother and so they zapped away.  Again, just my theory.

But remember, the show just ended the day before yesterday.   Some people aren't even home yet, plus they do have lives.  A little understanding of a bit of a delay in posting vids obviously is beyond the capability of some people here.  Mystere, you posted that you don't even have t-storms where you live.  So maybe a few less people went out to tape in the thunder and lightning than would otherwise have done.
