dogshome9-have you ever fished for baramundi? are they just in the northern territiories? the first time i went to australia it was just about this time of year. loved it! we got brilliant thunderstorms at uluru and waterfalls off the rock the next day (we slogged thru knee deep water in some spots then!) the great part was that the rain kept the black flies to a real minimum...
how are the burn areas doing? we had alot of big fires here in socal recently and now just about everything is green (til summer and the next fire season - sigh)
your place looks great, but what are your wildlife probs? i'd love to have even 1 acre! land in southern california is so expensive! o well, i can dream of acres and acres...

Hi Kalibeck,

Yes that was me. Beautiful looking dog. Yvonne was very suprised on how well the dog interacted with me. They had fun. They are welcome back whenever they want.

angusmom,
no we have never caught the Baramundi but up around the Reef area we have caught Coral trout, Red Emperor, Mangrove Jack and there was another that I cannot remember at the moment, the fishing up around the reef areas is fantastic and most of the resorts will cook any fish that you catch for your dinner. I am not really a water person but I went snorkeling on the reef and was the last one out of the water it was the best holiday ever.

I really feel for those people living  in Victoria, the devistation and loss of lives both human and animal, I know of vets that were involved in the rescues and treatment of animals both domestic and wild and I have no idea how they manage to cope with it all, breeders who managed to escape with their pets and other who were lucky just to escape with their family.

As for us and our wildlife problems we have kangaroos, wombats, ducks, rabbits and foxes, and other marsupials, not to mention the snakes, Brown, Tiger, Red Bellied Black, and others I hope never to see, the wombats are the worst as they just plow through the fences, only last week a wombat went through all three of my dog runs leaving large holes to be fixed the next morning before I could let the dogs out.
My dogs will chase absolutley anything that moves but my 5 month old puppy is the best she loves to chase the butterflies, I cannot help but smile everytime I see her doing her thing and her bewilderment when she has no idea where the butterfly goes when she has her big foot on it.

Here you can still buy a large block of land or a small farm for a reasonable price depending of course where you want to live and what you want to use the land for. Here where I live the land is not good for livestock or for growing crops but it is great for me and my dogs.

Yes there was a time when I thought it was only a dream but here I am.

DO make sure you find out any township & county ordinances BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. I didn't find out I am not supposed to have a kennel at my last house (even a private one) without a variance till AFTER I moved in. They let it slide because my dogs were quiet, but one noisy dog or one nasty neighbor could have caused me a world of problems.

dogshome9,  i've snorkeled the reef too - loved it. i forgot about some of the really nasty snakes you guys have. we've got rattlesnakes here in socal, but that's about it for the nasty ones. we do have some bad spiders too. i was amazed when i saw wombats at the zoo-they were much bigger than i expected and they were pretty grumpy with each other too (altho that cracked me up). my son loved australia and is considering going to college there. citywise, we both really liked adelaide and i love sydney. i like the climate there better than around brisbane-too humid. next time i want to see some of the other cities like melbourne and perth and i want to visit darwin too. i'd love to have a place with more open land for myself and my dogs-i think my son will be more of a city boy and my husband just needs someplace not too cold and easily accessible to an airport. maybe i'll send my kid to the city, my  husband to mexico and i'll get a place for me and the dogs.....actually sounds good to me........
