I also sell all of my puppies on limited AKC registration, and have for the 14 years I've been breeding.  Never had a problem selling my puppies to awesome people who work them, love them, and keep them healthy and happy for their lifetimes.  Bascially I don't believe in selling an 8 week old puppy as a breeding prospect - which is what you are doing if they are sold with full registration.  I put years and thousands of hours of time into putting Schh titles on my dogs, making sure they are healthy (hips, health testing, etc) and conformation ratings - travel and money and time and effort into getting all of these things done per dog BEFORE THEY ARE EVER BRED.  Or I import a dog already titled/conformation/hips for breeding.
Why would I sell a puppy from two parents who had all of that work and effort put into them to make sure they were breedworthy according to my breeding standards (SV standards and rules) only to turn around and allow someone to breed one of their pups without all of the above-mentioned breed-proving criteria?  I don't think so.

As for someone breeding the dog on limited - the puppies can't be registered.  Why would someone pay the price I charge (not a "BYB" price) and turn around and become a BYB of unregistered dogs?  So far that has never happened.  If people are interested in breeding they say so.  It's one of my first questions, especially if someone is looking for a female.  One of the first things I explain is the limited registration.  I am happy to change it to full when the dog has achieved advanced working titles (Schh1 or equivalent) and adult passing hip rating.  Period.  If they won't buy a pup on limited, then they aren't getting one from me.  I assume if they have a problem with the limited then they have plans to breed the dog without titles/hips and therefore I didn't want to sell a pup to them anyway.

I have seen ads here on the PDB for sons of my dog V-Eagle v Eichenluft Schh3,FH2,IPO3,KKl-1 for stud.  Untitled, not worked - not my breeding (outside titled female bred to my dog, breeder sold the pups with full registration).  That is something I don't want to see with my kennel name attached.  That breeder sold the pups without consideration for the dogs' well-being - they are now BY breeders and not the family companions and working partners they should be.

Really there is only one reason why someone would be offended by the limited registration, and that is because they have plans on breeding without titles.   That is up to them - but not with one of my puppies.

I,m sure it happens all the time unfortunatley, I used to go to coon dog trials in Ohio and you can buy papers for almost any dog that hunts...

I agree with Molly 100%

Totally agree Molly.

Heck when I had 2 of my pups at 9 months old up for sale I had phone call's asking me if he has been bred yet and what does he throw, and asked how many pups my 9 month old female has had!!!! Needless to say they didn't get any of my pups period!!! This is why I do what I do.

Mainly Bob,
If the animal hasn't been spayed or neutered you really don't have the control over breeding.    And there are people out there who would cheat on the paper work.

Held,
I do agree there are a lot of breeders out there with quality dogs at fair reasonable prices offering full registration.

Of course there are, but you have to do the best you can and this is a good start, and Helds Idea that people are trying to ripp people off with Limited show ignorance of the responsibiltes a breeder has for its puppies and the quality they want associated with there kennel name.

If a breeder sells a pup on a limited reg then it's fine with me that that is how they want to sell their pups, i just won't be a buyer. I've never bred a dog, i'll never breed a dog and i'll also never buy a pup with strings attached. It's a principle thing with me. If a dog comes and lives at my house the pup gets excersize, training, grooming, quality food, attention, overall excellent care and affection, every single day. A dog comes to work everyday with me, sees all things in the world, an excellent placement for a pup. It's just the way i feel about it,

Bob,
I agree and disagree with various aspects of the whole situation.
Yes there is much ignorance thats for sure.   We agree on that.
I can see all sides, I have also talked to breeders who say one thing in public and something else in private.
Never knock anyone who trys tho.   No suprise some care only about the money.
Its good some care about the animals first.

Well said Al I agree with you. I am sure that many people will have no problem with a limited registration I personally do. If I have gone through all the effort of doing my homework to bring the best possible dog home to be my dog I want one with no strings attached. I am not a breeder and do not plan on becoming one but still want a full registration on a dog I have spent alot of my hard earned money on. My dogs live a hell of a life and I am the lucky recipient of their affection and devotion!!

Lyn,
I personally feel the same way.   I don't care much for strings.
And it does feel insulting to some people to be dictated too.
Ultimately it is the breeders right, and the buyers choice.
