Yes I know there was a courage test, not sure why they took it out.
Well I found this on one, however, after the third session she had a full grip. and carried.
Didn't say they can't or they wouldn't have multiple titles.
LOL that's quite the attack!!! Congrats!

Hi Michele,
The pic is not of my dog but is Eian & Elexa's mother (Berta vom Quasliner Moor). She is a very intense bitch!

Herding GSDs actually have the best grips in the GSD world. They have very calm and full grips, no thrashing or chewing. After all, their purpose is to make sheep fat, not to make holes in them. This attribute carries over to police dogs, and why it is desired in schutzhund.

I don't know if this is the escape story you are thinking of, Sunsilver but it may be:
http://www.german-shepherdherding.com/manfred-english/index.html
It's about schafermeister Walter Lorenz during WWII and his protege schafermeister Manfred Heyne.

YES!! That's the one!
Thank you so much, Sam! Great story!
After some searching I've found the account of Manfred's dog knocking the helper to the ground. Scroll down until you see the picture of the dog doing protection:

Yes, Sam, that's me. Thank you kindly on the compliments. Having Aragon is a dream come true for me. And with Karl now in his early 80's and with some health issues, I feel it is a great priviledge to have gotten one of his Kirschental puppies before he decides to quit breeding.
Yes, herding blood was what drove(pardon the pun) me to pick Zeckie rather than Druxie. lol. A good GSD should be a well-rounded dog indeed. Shouldn't just excel in stacking, or biting. We're nothing fancy by no means, but we love Aragon and give him our best.

I have a Kirschental dog and he is nice. I do believe tho that some of the earlier Kirschental dogs were much better, there was also a post on this subject some time back.
Times change.
I had high hopes of doing herding with my dog but things just haven't panned out , it is a beautiful thing to watch.
Good luck Jill.

Remember not all GSDs, even K lines, are suitable for herding. still depends on the individual dog.
What I have come to appreciate with these lines is their high intelligence, stamina, easy trainability and temperament.
"quote I do believe tho that some of the earlier Kirschental dogs were much better quote"
Different times, different purposes, but they still do what they did, whether it's herding, SAR, K-9, Therapy, etc depending on each dogs strength and of course imprinting .... they also make an excellent companion and family dog, very important in this suing society
