And we have been told that the pic in question is really of her.
So I guess we have to accept that the dog in the pic above is a sable. But it sure seems like an optical illusion!
And, it goes without saying, the puppy is gorgeous (and is surely sable!)

Sables are simply fascinating. We have been breeding and raising them for years and never get tired of it. Some do look like black and red dogs from a distance, especially when they are out of coat. A good indicator is to look at the mane when in doubt.
Look at Vienchen's son Iceman: www.arlett.de/hunde/icemanvonarlett.html . He has almost the same pattern and pigment as his mother does. And if my plans work out and he stays long enough in Germany, he will be the sire of our next litter.
A good example of how a sable changes is my Penny: www.vomsilbersee.com/penny.html . She is a "double dose" sable, Timo Berrekasten on her mother's side and the same line as Vienchen (well almost through Soffie) on her sire's side. Not too many (showline) sables are around anymore and I think that is a grave mistake.

The sire is sable as is his dam.....it's just that he has what appears to be a saddle back....
This is my dog Theo who is sable, but sometimes at a glance I think I am looking at his mom Mira who is black & red
with the same markings..
I may be wrong, but I believe there needs to be at least one sable parent to have sable offsprings in a litter...
Theo and Sam have the same mom, different dads, but they were both sable, Sam had 2 sable brothers, there were
12 in Theo's litter 6 Sable 6 Black & reds!
This is Theo & sister Sam
Instead of having the sable color running down the front part of his arms & legs, it's more gold coloring, and
it's almost like he has a saddle back, but comb the hair the opposite way, and it's all tan underneath...
