I think there is something disturbing about a 10 year old winning. Does that mean that the Sussex Spaniel is in great danger having no youngsters better than a 10 year old??

I'm wondering...

Went to look at the GSD..only 3!! Not much of a choice..didn't like any of them..

"I think there is something disturbing about a 10 year old winning. Does that mean that the Sussex Spaniel is in great danger having no youngsters better than a 10 year old??"

LOL I'm going to use that line at the next horse show when my old mom wins a class on her 15 year old Morgan.   I wonder how many people will slap me?

That dog was in excellent shape for a 10 year old and he showed very well.  I don't think the youngsters were disgraced by losing to him.

I was wondering if they we're any youngsters!!

And please..don't compare horse and dogs!! Horse live up to 30 years for heaven sakes!!
I like veteran and yes he is in great shape..Nothing to do with this particular dog..I don't think it's a disgrace to loose against a veteran..

I would be asking the same question about GSD if a 10 year old would take GV or GVX

Gustav, You hit the exact reason I had to stop going anywhere near the rng with gsds at AKC shows. At least, the first and breed winner had decent pigment. The second had what looked like white patches, but most importantly, had the tail tucked most of the time and a head so snipy, it could be used to chop wood. The 3rd was washed out, among other things. JMO LOVED the Scottie! That Sussex...too clunky looking for my taste, but that 10 yo was in condition. He was even able to sit up and beg at one point. :-) I don't see the public running out to run up the breed's numbers. :-)

I was talking about my old mother, not the horse.

Yes, why were there ONLY THREE GSDs? For a breed that is listed at third in popularity, what is that all about? It seems down right embarrassing! Was there an unofficial boycott?

And another observation, I've never seen so many ankles the size of hams in my life. What's that all about? Ladies, here you are striving for perfection and condition in dogs, and then to just go and ignore those ideals for yourself? Definitely seemed more of a lady problem than a man problem from what I saw. Positively horrified my DH.

That Sussex came out of retirement last week and won, pretty amazing. Cute little bugger, nonetheless. Not my cup of tea either, but at least the damn poodle didn't win again!

"I think there is something disturbing about a 10 year old winning."

Why, because it's fit and happy and healthy, and not washed up at 6 and dead at 7?  We've had a number of threads on here about how GSD don't live long, and what can be done about it.  Here you have a 10yo who looked FANTASTIC and you think it's "disturbing."  If it was a 10yo GSD you'd all be amazed.

This crowd can be negative about anything and everything.

What poor clingy examples of the breed... shown strung up behind the ears, to keep them from bolting?  All very soft and unfit looking with poor heads and fronts.

That was sad to see.

Obviously the BOS judge didn't know he was a senior boy because I heard her remark something like "Really?  He's 10?"  when the handler said something to her.

I was cheering him on because I used to show sporting dogs in AKC and because of his age but I also really liked the Giant Schnauzer in the working group.
