by wuzzup on 30 November 2008 - 06:11
NOT ME I DON'T KNOW HOLTZBERGE..I KNOW SOME ONE LOOKING FOR DDR LINE IN OHIO .IM NOT SURE WHO THEY ARE LOOKING TO. I TOLD HER WAIT AND SEE WHAT POPS UP ON THE DATA BASE AS SHE NEEDED TO BE CAREFUL WHEN GETTING A DOG FROM OHIO.IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING SHE SHOULD KNOW ,PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL FORWARD IT TO HER. HECH I JUST LIKE XENA.MY FRIEND WOULD LIKE A BLACK FEMALE . 7---8 WEEKS OLD . IT DOES NOT NESSACERILY HAVE TO BE FROM OHIO. THATS JUST THE KENNEL THAT CAUGHT HER MIND..

Make sure that the hips and elbows are certified and not this silly crap like this:
Prelims good
When you see that, you know that the hips are NOT certified.

I TOLD HER TO WAIT ...I WOULD LOOK INTO THE KENNEL SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT .THE LADY GAVE HER SOME STORY ABOUT HER COMPUTER BEING DOWN..COULD NOT SEND ALL INFO. I TOLD HER HOLD ON HER CHECK BOOK . IF YOU KNOW A GOOD PLACE SHE CAN GET THE DOG SHE WANTS TO ADD TO HER BREEDING PROGRAM LET ME KNOW.SHE IS IN PA. AND I THINK SHE WOULD PREFER TO DRIVE RATHER THEN FLY THE PUP..

I remembered Jean of Schraderhausk9 had Lux sent out for training to get his SchIII since she couldn't do it herself. Jill and Becky of Truehausk9 and Hotzberg not sure if they just breed and\or have ever worked any of their dogs current and past. Not sure if that matters to you or not but I normally look toward a breeder(s) who have put the time and effect into working their breeding stock that way you'll know they have a lot better idea of what their capable of producing. Pedigree can only tell you so much.

I'm glad you mentioned that since Julie bred a male name Foenix that was under two years and had only his prelims. What kind of breeder would do that? Just curious...

I have two VBK9 girls, one Aron and one Walko. Julie was great to deal with and my girls are the best!!!

Ehret- I thought she did work her dogs... Like I said, I could be wrong, I AM on the other side of the country and have had no personal dealings with her.
Pharoah- Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't your very dog's breeder breed off of prelim xrays?
wuzzup- would you mind sending me a PM in regards to who your friend was looking at getting a dog from in Ohio? If it's who I think it is, that person is VERY reputable and VERY knowledgable.
I tihnk one of the biggest issues here is that there are SO MA NY "DDR breeders" out there nowadays, virtually none of them actually work their dogs, and most of them are selling puppies to pay the bills. They know people like the look of these dogs, and try to market looks alone. I've seen alot of DDR breeders in my area sell all of the puppies in their litters to pet homes and have some of the pups end up being returned because they are way too high drive and need a job. I've actually ended up with several dogs to "rehab" because of this.
I breed Czech/Slovak/DDR lines, however I don't make the basis of selling my pups off of color. I match the appropriate pup to the appropriate home based of drives, temperament, etc. Period.

Why is it in the U.S.A. these big names or "reputable" breeders not work their own dogs in whatever fashion they deem work is other then to just breed? It's like walking into a car dealerhship and have the car salesman selling you a car he or she knows a lot about but have nerver driven the car itself.

My dog's parents are both imported Schutzhund titled, breed surveyd and A stamped. They also have stellar temperaments and high intelligence.

I am very happy with Pharaoh. I was not looking for a super sport dog to be on the podium. He is a high drive, high energy, 14 month old with a very good social temperament and a sunny disposition. He would definitely be too much dog for a lot of people. He is my third shepherd and I am glad to have had that experience. He is a typical slow maturing DDR male. Only in the last week or so have people stopped asking how old my puppy is. He's a big boy (26 inches/85 pounds) so it was only his puppy behavior and extreme high energy that said PUPPY. I take him to the dog park almost every day and he gets along really well and is gentle with the little dogs. He rockets around with the bigger dogs and is lightening fast.
There were very likely pups in that litter who are more laid back and appropriate for a strictly pet or less experienced home.
I would trust Julie to distinguish the appropriate temperament for a particular buyer. Julie knows what her dogs are like because she lives with them. They are in and out of her house all the time and she does work some of them, just not Schutzhund. She has a trainer that comes to her property to do protection . There is an agility course on her property and I watched Aron fly through the whole thing twice. He was totally exuberant and playful. Julie started out with Search and Rescue now one of her sons just got certified.
I would not risk taking a puppy from a litter where one of the parents is "prelim good". There are no guarantees, there is only due diligence.
So, when you are looking at a kennel, they may have dogs that you like and approve of and dogs that do not. I would not be just saying "send me a puppy". I would be requesting a puppy from a particular breeding.
Do your homework and vote with your dollars.
