July9000,

No, I wish! I have a pup from Samuri Shepherds that I hope to start obedience with and who knows, if his conformation and gait are good enough, we might put him in conformation as well. I am not a breeder, but I do want to get my pup as far as he can go. When we looked for a new pup, we went looking for a breeder that not only bred champions, but also put some working titles as well.

Nia:    Your description of your male's dog encounter with the sheep  reminded me of my old Tiekerhook dogs reaction to sheep.  Stop'em & drop'em.

Samuri had a bi color dog years ago being trained for SCH, I believe the dog had a BH and was going for his SCH1.  I have no info on whether he acheived it or not.  It was out of their older dark blk/red male storm or something was his name

Sue:

Yeah, he was SMOKIN'.   Thisis the same male that Dean liked at the seminar.  Frankly, I was only a little more impressed with his reaction than to my old bitch's.  She really responded to defend me from this thing, the like of which she'd never seen before, at about the same (12-13 month) age. I can't wait to see what the new puppy does when I take her herding.  She is the most obnoxious and STUBBORN  puppy I have ever had.  I won't be surprised if she is the one that leads to me actually having to pay for some damn sheep.  She is 6 months old now and I think we will venture down to Ewetopia in the next few weeks to get her HIT.  Gotta start collecting all those initials, ya know!

<<<Mystere,

AKC didn't make rules just for the GSD. That is why there is a difference.  You must know that there is diferent herding style..

When AKC made their rules for herding they didn't ask the SV and all the other Club for all the other breeds to see what they we're thinking about.  They made their rules for the AKC. (more than 200 breeds!!)

I agree it is mixing apples and oranges. In AKC you have different kind (duck-sheep-cattle). And those dogs Have a HSAS wich means Herding Started Course. It's not just a HT.>>>

Irrelevant, and immaterial as the GSDC of A could, if it were of a mind, have a herding test just for gsds, just as the Dobie folks have teir WACs, the Newfies their Waterdogs, and the Dals their Road dog tests.   So, that is not why there  is a difference.  The difference is related directly to what will put the most money in the AKC's pocket.  Why do you think so many breeds are being recognized now that they have a "fan base"?  MONEY.

Oh but yes Mystere I understand your point on AKC and money...I'm not defending the AKC. I'm just saying that the rules are different..

But tell me we're can we go pass an HGH in the State or in canada?? and how many trials there is in a year??

Probably not many...and why is that since more and more people are interested in herding??

Anyway I don't know why we are comparing..this is just assuming an AM bred GSD couldn't pass an HGH!! I don't know why they couldn't..They can jump..they can herd..and yes they can bite as well (They have teeth too or I am teaching you something here.)..So yes maybe the HGH is more difficult but do they really get a chance to try if there is not much trial over here??

In fact..this is so irrelevant of bringing this HGH..There we're only 2 HGH trial in USA 1997-1998..even if we want to pass it we can't so I just don't know why people bring this up!! Nobody even stepped on a field of an HGH trial and you're talking about it as you're doing that every week-end!!

So someone going to tell me how many of you earn a HGH??? Well I bet it is ZERO!!

I have never claimed to have earned a HGH, and neithr has anyone else on this thread.  Where the HELL do you get off coming up with such rot?   This is carrying the defensiveness too far, so please just knock it off.

YOU are the one who began this entire thread as a "comparison"  for God only knows what reason.   WHERE can one train and title for an HGH in the USA?   New Jersey, for one.   There is a club dedicated to doing nothing else. As a matter of fact, USA changed its bylaws  (1998 Denver Nationals) specifically so that that club could comply with the annual trial requirement, adding HGH trials, as well as schutzhund trials.  People have been working their dogs in  the HGH style even prior to that.  Those that have the interest and find the necessary accoutrements do so, the same as with schutzhund, Ring, PPD, and yes, even AKC or whatever the other herding authority is, as well.

It appears that you are in Canada, so you would need to ask some of the Canadians who value the working aspects of the breed about where you can TRAIN and trial in order to pass an HGH in Canada.  As with schutzhund, there would probably be fewer opportunities in Canada.   If you are really interested, I would suggest also getting in touch with the the GSSCC Executive, Raino Fluegge for information and guidance.

Unlike "bought title" endeavors, I doubt that anyone just finds one to "go pass" an HGH.  It takes work.

Go check out the articles on Ulf's site( http://www.whitecloversheepfarm.com/sh-articles/The%20Instinct%20Test.pdf ). Article #4 is very interesting especially where he discusses the most important traits in paragraphs 5 and 6 on page 2.
