just watched  the PSA and tribute on Porter .

As many know I train in the field of Schutzhund however I appreciate any type of working sport .  It is not the sport I am looking at it is the quality of the dog . The same dog could have been used for Schutzhund Police PSA Ringsport etc..

Anyone that has trained a dog for high level knows and understands the time hard work and u must have a quality animal on your lead or you will not make it to the top and if you make it by chance you will not remain there ;))

just last week I seen litter mates of my breeding  most are in Schutzhund but I had the pleasure to view  one littermate  in personal protection training  it was a pleasure to my eye , fast strikes convincing grips confidence  then from another litter a police dog again the same picture  as their littermates  in schutzhund and show the same qualities .  I do not look at what sport/ service they work in I look at the quality of the dog.

In my opinion that Porter  is a quality dog and if his owner would have choosen schutzhund  or Ring I am sure the dog would have shown his qualities there also.   very nice tribute to the dog I commend those who put it together !!

Schutzhund sport is judged harder then any other protection sport ,if the dog touches the helper with a paw in the guard  points come off if the dog is not in exact heel position or even scoots fwd in the escape position points come off . If the dog is not completly full and has that sleeve stuffed to the back of his teeth points come off  and so on and so on ...I see that the other sports give the dogs a bit more  space and a little more forgiveness  I think thats great.   No dog no matter his qualities could do any of those sports without training and conditioning  for different situations. They do not come trained and conditioned to the excerises of your choosen sport out of the whelping box  :)

Oh and the dogs don't care  they do not think about that the one their owner enrolled them in  is better then the other one his littermate is training in .

Main reason we all do this crazy sport no matter what we choose is for the love of our working dogs ! and that should be enough   after all we don't have to all play in the same playground :))

I think there are weaker and stronger dogs in all sports, even if some sports takes more time and training due to the fact that they are more comprehensive than others.  Maybe it´s more a question of judging and decoywork and not so much that certain sports are superior than others.

Uglydog:

Now I understand, If you got the full Tim Helser experience I hope you got a six week round of antibiotics he is a walking infection. But Tim is the exception not the rule. I agree USA should worry about quality of the membership not just warm bodiescount

Excellent post Pia, thank you!

Ugly... the title of the thread was my attempt to briefly summarize the "subject"...better explained... my observation of people who feel the need to compare and critisize what they do to what other's choose to do (SchH vs. PSA).  I apologize if I didn't make that clear in the body of my post.

I appreciate all the positive comments and defense of my POV.

Above all, It's all about appreciating a good strong working dog and the hard work of his/her handler not matter what venue is chosen.  Thanks to Pia for highlighting that.

PSA trial 2008..AZ  Nice video footage & really nice work. Granted Im biased.

I'd still like to get top marks in both as a long term goal..

Really nice, Ugly.  I love PSA too, I have friends involved and I think it's another great sport.  I think we all would love to be able to one day be at the top of our chosen sport,  nothing wrong with goals and aspirations.  I think it's important that we have respect for each other and appreciate the work involved in what we are doing rather than unproductive sport comparisons, because in the end you choose what is better for you and your dog, and that's just a personal choice.

Me too, Ugs, but you want to know what's funny?  Yesterday when we were trying to sound so serious but still kept slipping in the name calling  I was reminded of this classic:

Sue...Why SchH USA would still allow someone like Helser to continue to operate as a charter club is beyond me...Its inconceivable.

I really dont care about myself, I chalk it up as a learning lesson.  I had faith in SchH USA & its sometimes difficult to discern the truth,  when a Club or affiliate member someone misrepresents himself & his credentials.

I really care about others Ive met, nice widows, single moms & the unsuspecting,  that he & guys like him prey on. I also care about the dogs he has ruined.  Dogs that must be put down or become useless.  Dogs with Avoidance issues, from training 'mistakes' Rushing dogs, working them in a 'Defense drive' when theyre still 6mo old puppies, such as a Mal pup he agree to 'assess' for someone.   Not returning club dues or forwarding them.

Or working a nice young dog, running it over,  & telling the owner 'nice dog, all prey, wont bite for real, Ill give you $1500 for him" & then selling him for $3500 to another party.    The stories abound on this site of  people he has tried to do this to. AGAR is one for instance.   I dont care about members backgrounds, but certainly representatives of SchH USA should pass & maintain standards of conduct & background checks.

The stories are almost endless..These are real issues that SchH USA does not want to deal with for some reason.   I was told, they fear 'retaliatory lawsuits' from those they would otherwise issue warnings or expulsions to, even when deserving of them.   There are bound to be more 'Helsers' out there, thats my concern, & it is very valid.

Sue..classic video!

I remember those Saturday Evening very well. Those were the days.   John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Eddie Murphy, & co.   Good stuff.

Jane you ignorant slut is indeed a classic.   Glad you saw the humour in it.
