The consumer is dictated by the economy,  &  of what he or she will or can pay.

The economy is Now in a full blown Recession, headed towards a Depression.  On a global scale. Import dogs..forget it. Currency exchange $1.60 Euro vs Dollar

And again, the upside is that unscroupulous breeders in it for profit will disappear. This will include most Show lines.

As for anyone paying more than 1,500.00 for a pup must be idiots, well than there are a lot of them here. And as for the people in it for the money, well I don't consider myself one of those. And for me to give them away well that isn't going to happen here either. So I guess I got what I was looking for with this post and that was what other breeders were selling there working lines for.

Held,

7 to 10 years ago, your statement would have had some validity. It still does if we are talking about a litter resulting with minimal expenses, i.e. when the breeder owns both parents or if the stud dog lives close by. But I just can't afford to sell my German litters for $ 1,500 anymore. I still did last year, though when I had my Paska-litter. Maybe, that is the reason I had so many requests that I could have had 10 more puppies in that particular litter. But now, that is impossible. 10 years ago, I would have never dreamed of paying $ 600,000 and more for a "normal" middle class house either. And that is the current price. Can you imagine how much that same house went for two years ago? But looking at the above price list from that particular kennel, that is just crazy. And I can not understand that people pay that kind of money.

Uglydog,

I wholeheartedly agree with your last paragraph. I do hope as well that some of these unscrupulous breeders will disappear. But on the other side, if people can't afford well bred puppies anymore, where do they go? To the BYBs, unfortunately.

People can barely afford to gas their cars, let alone feed dogs or puppies.  Its coming, best prepare.  Forget commanding & asking for premium prices for pups, very soon.

The next few years will be similar to the Weimar Republic.  Hyper- Inflation, Stagflation & a Depression, imo.

Chris   you have some stellar dogs over there at you kennel, yes like you we can't afford to just give our dogs away. Yes if I wouldn't have invested in breeding with Andy if he wasn't what we were looking for in our kennel alone someone else to have the Genetics of Andy and Pandora combined.

Thank you, Chuck. Believe me, I feel for you. We too have a litter of 4 great workingline females here. They just turned 8 weeks old and will be tattooed tomorrow. One is spoken for, and another one also, but we have to keep her until the end of next month. It is vacation time and the economy is bad. I am prepared to keep my sweeties for a while longer if needed. If they were males, they would have been gone by now. We had 3 reservations for males. It must be a workingline thing! Luckily, we only had 4. You have 9! My husband is flying to Germany in a couple of days and is taking two of our young guys with him, so they get brought up in a proper environment by our friends in Germany. So, that way we can devote time to our puppies. Everybody is complaining about the lack of sales of puppies. The only time, people still jump is if litters from Germany are offered. While I breed my females in Germany because I try to find the best match possible and have family ties and friends there, I do not understand why buyers seem to think that they get better dogs if they only want a great family companion. For a family companion, the most important thing should be health, then temperament!

Good luck with your litter, Chuck!

Chris

I paid $400 for my pup and he is healthy, parents are OFA'd, and getting his training done. Not sure on what to work him on though?

"yes both parents have titles and been OFA'ed."

I have been watching Andy for some time and seeing all that he has done but I am not aware of Pandora's titles and work. Could you tell us more about her?

Ghostly, I'm not familiar with the dam, but Andy is a favorite of mine, I wish you good luck with the pups. I would certainly take 1 from you if I had a little more space. But I have 1 male pup left over from my litter, a very nice puppy, & I am holding out for the right person for him. They'll come along, I'm sure. But I feel for folks trying to sell pups right now, times are tough, & pups are a whole lot of work & expense....I know we didn't make any $$! More like we made back about 1/2 what we spent......but it was a learning experience, & I love the little buggers! jh
