Preston.
The youtube of 7mth X is rubbish protection tacitics training.Get handler killed training. To much sport nonsense.Only imprint young pup.No more bite training untill active aggression starts.Maybe 14/18mths.Some dogs never. This Dogs bite very shallow & weak.Would only get sweat shirt or coat not bone of man in real life.Outs to easy & for wrong person.Handler must go to dog not other way.Dog must always eye criminal.Must only do social thing with this dog after imprint.NO BITE TRAINING.Dog think game only.Bad criminal kill dog trained like this easy. 5 seconds. Then start on handler.
When man behave like fool dog must come forward barking telling fool I want to kill you.Even at 7 mths.Handler in very strong voice & hand rise for stop tell "Keep away from me.Dog will attack you." Man cannot pat dog.Man pat dog can stab handler.Cannot send dog of lead to bite like this unless maybe firearm used by criminal or handler has a lot of money she not wants. This handler maybe poor breed person bad with kicking.Best for her to run away not fight criminal with dog.Go to safety..
Preston you don't know about this. Why talk so much. You work this for job?I do many years in state army.Very serious not for for nacy man.
This makes it hard for person who seeks proper help

That's my girl in the first part of ts' video. I'm co-owning her with Eisenfaust and she certainly has the drives! They were very honest about her and there were no surprises when I got her home.

ts & e, no, I get it more than you could ever imagine. My point is training a safe PPD is a misnomer. Lightweight training is better than the serious PPD stuf for 95% of the people. I prefer an alpha GSD that is sound, stable and can deal with a threat immediately without PPD training, and yet sane around family, friends and children and able to live inside the home. Many years ago I saw some perimeter dogs (at Lackland and other places) and they were not suited for pets and family protectors. I doubt either of you understand what a truly alpha male with "gangster genes" is like that is able to live in the home. Such a GSD would never turn from a fight or give up, and can live with children and a family in the home, if they are raised with proper discipline. Steve Leigh knows about some of the classified "wet entry" PPD trained anti-terrorism GSDs. Ask him if he thinks they would make good family pets. Most anti-terrorist trained PPD dogs would be just too dangerous for family pets. Anything less than that is just stealing naive people's money and creating unnecessary hazards. And anyway, a good GSD family pet who is a manstopper is just the first stage of home protection. The dog will give you some warning and some time, the rest is up to the homeowner. Most so called PPD trainers are just conning folks and taking their money when it would be better spent acquiring a sound, dominant GSD of normal temperament, and taking NRA gun safety and shooting lessons.

Preston, I'm just curious. How many GSD's have you titled in Schutzhund? I understand from seeing some other threads on the PDB that you are well versed and knowledgeable in pedigrees. I'm just trying to get a read on your actual experience with working dogs. Have you done any helper or decoy work? If you are not into Schutzhund or working dog sports thats fine, again I'm just curious as I don't really know you.

Best advice is you decide what you decide. Not what others tell you to decide.Do proper Threat Level Assessment -ask local Police for advice on this.
Talk to several trainers. Is there a standard with this PPD in USA to test against?.Learn to ask right questions so right answer given.
I would contact the people ts 342003 says & see what they say.Other posters seem happy with them. This is a good thing.

You have issues.

As average "pet" owners who initially bought a GSD to guard the home & my partner after she suffered a physical attack I can only wholeheartedly agree with Preston.
We have had one bitch & 2 dogs, all from good West German show lines, non of which have ever undergone anything more than obedience training and a good healthy life. I don't just know they will guard & protect when necessary I have seen it happen on a number occasions. And they have done it unprompted and sometimes even before the "handler" realised there was a problem.
Dogs have an uncanny ability of knowing who the bad guy is or when a bad situation is about to occur for which they are often never given credit. And in the case of the GSD if you ally this instinct with their ability to protect & engage you have a winning combo.
Our present male is similar to the dogs Preston talks about in that he is a strong (in mind) confident individual that took some time to train & give us respect as leaders... we got him as a untrained 18 month old. 6 months back my partner was getting hassle from a gang of drunk teenagers which stopped as soon as the hound raised his hackles & let out a deep growl. No prompting was required & he just did what came naturally to him now that he knew who his "pack" was.
True if things really got out of hand then I couldn't honestly say what he would do. But for 99% of occasions this is all that's required anyway - & for the other 1%, as HardDawg mentioned, just pull a gun out & pop 'em.
