Gustav You are right. There are many good Czech lines. Car, Titus z PS, Ex hronovsky pramen, Frankie Anrebri, Norbo ben ju. etc. For bitches, my favorites are alma z PS, Axa z Blatenskeho zamku. Going back, I like Arys and Axa Travnikova . These dogs not only produce great K9 units, but also do very well in sport. I think it is often a matter of what someone is familiar with.

What would you say about Pike von der Schafbachmühle as a producer?

by Gustav on 18 December 2007 - 21:12

Dekal, You are absolutely correct in naming Car/Titus. This combination (CAR and Titus progeny bred to each other) has produced some absolutely nice strong working dogs with good type, aggression, nerve, and hips.

by DeKal on 18 December 2007 - 21:12

The Car/Titus connection is a sought after one. Has produced many fine dogs.

I don't know much about Pike von der Schafbachmühle, but he is in the top 10 "large number producers" for best hips, haveing in excess of 600 progeny. It appears that most of the Top workingdogs influenced through him tend to be through the dam side. Don't ignore the importance of the maternal lines. As an example, Kaso z Pohraniční stráže in Czech lines, is the maternal grandsire for Tom, Grim, Chuligan, and Xero who are all truly great producers from the z Pohraniční stráže program. He produced well through his daughters, and appearantly offered little in the way of well-known sons.

Darryl, Now you are getting into the meat and potatoes of successful breeding. From successful breeding comes good working line producers(or show). Some dogs have a propensity to produce better genders, produce well with some lines, produce better in the second generation than first, etc. When you analyze data such as you gave us on Fero/Troll,Timmy/Aly,etc., nice dogs arise. I also agree that people don't pay enough attention to the female line in planning breedings especially for workinglines where temperament is so important.

It helps to have an eye for identifying patterns when they develop, and to be able to filter out the clichéd or "cookie cutter" opinions that are offered. One of the drawbacks to Czech dogs, is the lack of available information on the same scale or as in-depth comparing to what you may find in west German lines. One of the drawbacks to "real" workingdogs, is finding veritable proof of their accomplishments and ability officially "on record". If you can't get yourself "hands-on" contact with the dogs to evaluate for yourself in-person, you have to carefully weigh-in the facts that are known, combined with the most authorative opinions you can garner. Even throw in a little dash of consideration for consistently repeated rumors. It would also benefit you to network with like-minded breeders, who may have similar interest in particular bloodlines, characteristics, training practices, pup-raising techniques, dietary programs.

I should clarify that the information I gathered above on "Dogs with at least SG overall and V in Protection" was not compiled by me, but by Louise Jollyman, from the following links. I simply merged them onto a single page, to work with identifying common bloodlines is a single framework. I feel the criteria she used is an excellent representation for producers that offer the "full package" in working ability. Dogs with at least SG overall and V in Protection BSP 1999 - 2006 http://www.dfwworkingdogs.com/interestinginfo.asp WUSV 1999 - 2006 http://www.dfwworkingdogs.com/interestinginfo3.asp USA Nationals 1999 - 2006 http://www.dfwworkingdogs.com/interestinginfo2.asp I considered adding the 2007 results to her work, and realized how embarrassingly short the list is for this year. It's not a very reassuring trend, however we are seeing a greater impact of Czech lines in top sporting competition today, and I hope this continues.

Nice work still. It's a good thing when people share this kind of info. Too bad we don't have a link database here that points to all these fantastic links because I always seem to lose them! Wonder how many working lines with great confirmation and health could have made it if they had the right trainers? I would venture to guess that there are many more top level dogs than top level trainers available! :-b
