If the Senate passes the bill, which they did I guess, doesn't the House have to pass it too before it becomes law?

kersch, good point. i did check into having barthaco check my dog in for me at detroit and they were going to charge me an additional 250usd plus 25 for customs fee. hmmmm. i never paid a fee at mnpls/stpaul so what's up with that? also, in order for them to do that, i would have to sign a power of attorney giving them the say so over my dog......i suppose that was necessary in order for them to sign for her. at any rate, i didnot like the idea of signing a power of attorney or paying an additional 250 bucks. i decided i would take care of it myself as i had before. and very glad i did. its no wonder people are afraid of importing dogs themselves. the whole process can be quite intimidating and very worrisome when it is a young pup. the last thing i wanted to happen was for my 8 wk old to have a layover in some kennel somewhere and be exposed to god-only-knows what. i really worry about parvo as the pup only has the immunity it has received from its mother at that age. having only had one parvo shot; there is not much protection until after the 3rd. these babies are far more at risk of contracting parvo than rabies. anyway, i just thought i would add my 2 cents about "brokers" as you called it. i would prefer to deal with customs myself. i suppose, if were buying dogs for resale, i might be more apt to use a broker, that way customs might be less aware of my activity and not pay too much attention to how many dogs i was importing. not the case here, however. pjp

Here is a link to the public comments received by the CDC in response to the proposed rule changes (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/pdf/anprm.pdf) regarding the importation of pets and exotic animals: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/publiccomments/comments.aspx?d=4 You will note some way down the list comments from both the AVMA and from the Hunte Corporation and we all know who they are!
