I am not a breeder, BUT if breeders just refund or replace a pup even if the buyer did wrong by the first pup is just WRONG, in my book.  All that does is to encourage puppy buyers to come on boards like this a run a smear champaign because they think they were buying a vehicle that has a no fault no questions asked warranty.  It also makes it harder for the buyer who has a legtimate claim harder to come to agreement with the breeder.  I believe in what is right is right, IF I am right I will be right whether or not I get a refund or replacement pup.  The breeder has to live with how they do business and I have to live with my choices and how I live my life.

I have gotten burned 3 times, not once did I go out in public and run a smear champaign.  The people I got the pups from know what they owed me and have to live with it.

I personally know this breeder, and also know that the very few pups that have come back dysplastic, she HAS replaced. BUT the owners did everything required.  You expect her to refund money with no proof of spay, no ofa report, just because she says so?  Then on top of it, wanting the breeder to ship the dog for free?  I know of no breeders who ship for free whether on the first dog or a replacement unless included in the price.

As for the smear campaign, as she is no longer breeding, I don't see where it matters.  The owner knows she didn't follow the contract on NUMEROUS points, yet still wants something for nothing.

Just my .02

I don't know if your post is directed to me, but if it is I feel compelled to respond.  First, I have commiserated with the breeder and said (more than once), that I don't think they did anything wrong.  Second, I don't "expect" a damn thing.  I was merely pointing out that sometimes being "right" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I do know breeders who find refunding worthwhile if it gets the problem solved. Of course, these breeders don't encounter this problem very often, so it's not like they have to worry about setting a precedent.  Plus, I was speaking about the original situation where in the puppy buyer wanted a replacement puppy.  If the relationship between breeder & buyer has deteriorated to the point where unwarranted accusations are being aired out on a message board, who in their right mind would want to continue the relationship by replacing the puppy?  Would you feel good about giving such a person yet another pup?

Yep, assholes abound in the world today.  There is always going to be someone who wants something for nothing, but what are you gonnna do?

Barb, I don't know you and I'm not saying you are an asshole, I was talking about a similar situation with a different person.

And Sue it wasn't directed at you, it was in general to the posts above.  Nothing specific.  I still love ya!

Hey I don't post often.  Was really directing my post at anyone, just putting it out there.

Breeders remind me of the western movie....  "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

Sorry, guess I got a little defensive there.  For what it's worth, people who complain when they don't have a leg to stand on, but do it because they know it will get them what they want piss me off too!

This was the reason I stated that we had only heard one side of Barb's problem. It is unfortunate that Grum Majestat has had the aweful luck with her breedings and I for one understand them. There are many different german shepherd breeders in the USA and they all have various views of how to handle the sale of their puppies. We won't always agree with some of them, but nontheless they are for each breeder to choose.  Some of you may feel that a contract is foolish, but it is there to protect the Seller as well as the Buyer. Barb obviously read and signed this contract and if taken to court, this is what the judge will go by, he will not go by feelings or hear say.  In this case I am just sorry for both parties involved.

Sincerely,

Debbie
