Yes Dogs can and will Kill Cows, Horses, Calves, Foals, Goats, Sheep, Deer,...... Especially when there is more than one.

one dog barking at the cows,  not too big of a deal so long as property lines are not crossed.... two or three dogs seen chasing the cows into a pond BIG PROBLEM !!!!    Dogs should not be allowed to "GANG" up,  problems are much more likely to happen when they are allowed to participate in such activities...  The stress that is put on the herd from such activity is unnecessary and unhealthy for the herd of cattle.  The Rancher has a right to have his cattle graze on his property undisturbed by other peoples dogs.

In some states the law does allow for the shooting of any dogs chasing, endangering, harming livestock.

It is up to all of us as owners to be responsible and keep our dogs home.

Good Luck with this dog I hope things work out,  Sounds like your friend is doing very well by her,  She's a lucky dog.

YIKES< Abhay! That was just before you pulled the trigger on your rifle, right? Are those coyotes?

We have mega coyotes in East Texas and yes they will kill a calf  , not a cow   ..People here get a pair of   JACK A$$$$$

to roam with the cattle for that reason.....a donkey will get rid of any coyote that menaces the herd.....a lot of donkeys in East Texas.....

I would bet on the  coyote or  a couple of "traveling salesmen" pack dogs   instead of this gsd that was inside the night before...she would have been nasty and dirty , if she had the gumption to kill a calf...and if she is with heart worms , she would probably be winded and the owner of the dog would have known  ,,,,,,it takes an effort to kill a kicking calf...

why would a gsd kill a calf if it has plenty of food at its "den" or i should say home

bender96, prey drive can and does take over at times.  One of our girls, raised in our house with our cats, is not trustworthy around them unless we are in the same room and watching.  It's not just a GSD that will do that but many dogs allowed to run lose that can cause problems.  We have had neighbor dogs chasing our sheep and lambs, single dogs and multiples, we were lucky another neighbor called and told us or we probably would have had dead or injured lambs and sheep.

The GSD with three other neighbor dogs?  More then the calves are in danger at that point.  Yes, they could easily kill a calf
