My opinion is:

#1 Moderate/Mild

#2 Borderline POSSIBLY Fair

I would not have paid the Vet for either xray though. Both are very poorly positioned and may cause you to get the Fair.

Okay, the OFA results are in.  OFA tells me over the phone, that the second x-ray submitted is going to be certified as "Fair" and will be mailed to me later this week.

Thanks for all of your opinions.  I was on pins and needles waiting, and I called them everyday for the last three working days.

So, should I be happy or what?

Bob-O and others:  Should I bother to try and get a better positioning, to possibly get a "good" out of them?   It will cost me more money and I do have a "passing" (normal) grade.  I am only breeding him to a female with OFA "good" hips.

P.S.  Some of you were right on.  Some of you were not even in the ballpark.  But hey, neither was my original vet, and he is ready to retire.

Did OFA say why he is rated fair and not good? I wouldn't xray him again if he were my dog. A number is a number.......................I'd be happy with that. I've used a fair dog bred to a good dam and he produced all goods and excellents. I don't get too hung up on OFA ratings; they are way too inconsistent for me.

I did not ask why only a fair grade.  I am going to tell my "family" vet, but dred it as he seemed a little perturbed when he found out I had someone else x-ray after he did.  He said I was wasting my money as OFA would have to take the first x-ray into consideration and they would not change their mind.  He said they rarely change their minds and grades, but we all know that he is wrong.  Probably his feelings will be hurt that another vet "did better".  Have to admit that I was surprised that they even graded the second x-ray, because of the legs not being parallel, as per the instructions on the OFA web site.

I have read over and over on this site and other sites, that a bad x-ray can make good hips look bad, but that an x-ray can not make bad hips look good.

Frankly, I have my doubts about that statement being totally true.  Perhaps that is partly why the breed can not "clean up" this HD problem.

I am just happy that my money, hopes and plans worked out.  Many don't.

Does OFA even put on the paperwork why a dog got a fair and not a good?  My females paperwork does not state why she got a good instead of an excellent, so I doubt it.  Just thinking out loud (so to speak).  He x-rays looked perfect to me, with my limited knowledge.  They also looked perfect to the vet that took them.

Oh well, today is a good day.
