I'm glad we have NEVER shipped a dog/pup out,  I have always said I don't like shipping....  I could NEVER handle it,  if I shipped a pup and it got LOST  (the story above)   My lord how heartbreaking for that poor girl !!!

From New York ???  I think it would have cost more for a truck or to drive,  than the 523.00 I paid to ship her....

This is WHY,  I looked so hard and so long for LOCAL dogs,  meaning dogs in the NW area that I could have driven to,  BUT to no avail there is nothing local of this calibur IMPORTED from Germany,  that I liked the looks of,  and love the fact that this girl I got from NewYork is a TOTAL couch potato in the house,  she sleeps on the bed,  is under my feet as I type,  I love her !!!!

The male I just got last night I expect will take a few days for him to be comfortable....Outside he is doing tremendously well,  He plays with us, and bounces around like a pup,  and is good with the other dogs with the exception of our other Male,  They don't like each other and growl through the fence when they pass by....  I am hoping in a few days he will be more comfortable when we bring him indoors with us.

I would have told the airline to ship that demon dog back to the seller.  There's no way I'd pay big bucks for a dog to show up being a man eater.  I'm with policemom; maybe he should have been euthenized long ago???

Molly,

Don't take my post the wrong way but why do you say that the dog that EchoMeadows bought has issues? I don't think you personally know nor have seen the dog, yet you say the dog has issues? I bet you millions that if both the shipper and Echo made arrangements to have the dog tranquilized before being put onto the plane that none of this would ever happen. It's quite obvious that Echo has dealt with someone who was only after her money and doesn't have the kind of passion for the breed, since the shipper was no where to be found when contacted regarding to the problems that the airliner was having with the dog.

Euthaizing a dog for overacting in a stressful situation is not a valid cause. It truly amazes me how people euthanize a dog for such a ridiculous reason. I think in order for the euthanasia to be done, A dog must have an extreme case of bad temperament that cannot undo it's self with training and behavioral modification... that means several trained unspecified breed behaviorist/trainers must evaluate the dog before making the decision. The dog must be gravely ill (terminal/trauma).

We as humans have no right to take a life without a valid cause.

Brittany, I would be really disturbed if the dog had to be put down in this situation but if I was on that dog and it caused an electrical or other problem running loose in the hold I would NOT see this as a ridiculous reason. And I can't see that they would have time for a temperament test or evaluation before the dog ate their face off or escaped and caused an airliner accident when another plane is on take off or landing. This dog didn't freak and eat it's cage in the garage. It was on a jetliner, two in fact. These are not dog handlers. Surely, you see that this was a potentially life threatening situation for a whole LOT of humans?

And, as someone stated before, you can't ship a euthanized dog. It is against their regulations and they will refuse acceptance of the animal if it is. At high altitudes the suppresed heartrate and respiration of a sedated animal can cause it to die of heart failure. That happened enough that the airlines began to refuse to do it.

And you can bet I would see it as a valid cause and I would refuse to board a flight if I knew a dog who had gotten loose and chewed a dang crate right through on it's previous flight. Damn skippy.

Airlines will refuse to accept a dog for flight, whether as cargo or baggage if the dog appears to be or is sedated.

I had a dog shopped to me, who sadly had to spend 18 hours on a tarmac in mid may. A very hot day! when the plane had mechanical difficulties. The airline called me every hour to let me know how the dog was doing. Additionally, when he finally arrived, I was given a type written report stating how many times he was wheeled off the plane into air conditioning and how much water he was given. Passengers also assured me how well the airline took care of my dog, as they were stuck ON the plane and not allowed off. I was very fortunate that my dog, who had never met me before, was incredibly stable both in temperament and condition when he finally arrived.  Because of the extensive delay, I didn't have to pick my dog up at Cargo, I claimed him in baggage. A tremendous roar of applause was given when my dog was finally wheeled out to me, and the passengers knew he was with his owner.

I have shipped and received several dogs over the years, and NOT once have I had a nightmare. Many of the dogs I have received I took delivery on having never met them before. I guess I can count myself fortunate.

Brittany,

I don't post here often, but I am going to respond to your post.  Either you didin't read all the posts or you didn't understand what was written.

A. as posted by WingertshausAirlines will not except tranquilized dogs for shipment!

I think Molly is probably right about the dog not being stable.  There are thousands of dogs shipped on Airlines every year and they don't eat through their crates.  Stable dogs do not eat through crates.  Brit would you like to be on a plane with a loose dog that chewed the wires and the plane crashed.  Human life does not equate to a dog's life.  Yes we love our dogs, but human life has more value.
