About Javir, I really like him, but not so much the big jumping on the hold & bark.

by AKVeronica60 on 19 September 2007 - 15:09

I thought the big jumping was flashy and fun, especially how he'd bark like a machine gun before his feet came back to earth.  Leap.. barkbarkbarkbark touchdown...Leap....barkbarkbarkbark....touchdown....  Why didn't you care for it Sue?

With the leaping, I don't think it's correct.  The dog is all over the place when he lands, and too easy to touch the decoy.

jumping around and leaping in the air in front of the helper isn't impressive to me either - it's a play/prey action, and IMO the hold/bark should be serious - I like a dog who is close and stays on the ground, looks the helper in the eye and focuses completely on him.  No leaping around in fun and games.

Sueincc - the judge would have terminated the routine for this dog when he was chased.  There was no more routine to be seen.  Leash on and bye-bye.  So all you would see in the first part is blinds running (prey/obedience), guarding (can be in prey/play) and an escape bite (again-prey - helper is running away).  This is the first bite in the routine where the helper is attacking the dog - and he failed that test.  End of story.

Another dog to take a look at is Eric v Sportpak - VERY nice in both obedience and protection (both videos are on the same site as this one)  Check out this dog - I liked him.

Molly, yes that's what I said I wanted to see, I know the dog would have been excused after she was chased.

I agree with Bitweiser that the audience reaction was unseemly.

Molly you said:

(This is the first bite in the routine where the helper is attacking the dog - and he failed that test.  End of story.)

But is there not an attack on the dog out of the guarding? I thought it went like this: -Blind search -Escape -Then an attack on the dog out of guarding with 2 stick hits -Then the back transport. (This is what we see on the tape)   Allan

yes you are right - but that grip is out of a stationary position and still doesn't involve the helper coming "at" the dog.  I didn't see it either, just surmising the dog got to that point working in his comfort-zone, in prey.

I would of liked to see the bite from the other side as from this angle you couldn't see the sleeve presentation very good. To me the bite bar was turn down and the sleeve tucked in from what I could see and the dog couldn't get a bite. With that being said this wouldn't of mattered to a lot of dogs as they would of bit the side of the sleeve.

As far as the reaction from the audience. I can understand them as some came from a far distance around the world to see top level dogs compete, not seeing local level competition. This cost the spectators tons of money on hotel fees/ car rentals, Flight cost, etc.

First I thaught   this was ment seriously , but  then I realized that  from someone who posts a lot this would be the dumbest post ever

so it must be ment as a joke
