Naya's Mom, what you are describing as your definition of a personal protection dog is what ANY decent GSD should be.

As someone who does know what a real personal protection dog is I find your definition  naive and a bit insulting. You have a very nice puppy with potential and I like what I have seen of her  so far, but she is not a personal protection dog ,not yet.  Maybe she will be someday. I hope so.   But  she can NOT  do  as much as "any other personal protection dog"  unless you truely don't know what a personal protection dog is.

She is a dog with promise that helps you feel secure. Nothing more at this point.  You are of course entitled to your opinion but titles and accomplishments like this are not subjective. It takes alot of work to get there. They need to be proven  and tested with decoys who know what they are doing and  in many situations, and they are not easy to find. Seems like evey yahoo out there with a sleeve thinks he's a trainer.

i'm glad you have a nice puppy with promise. I do too,out of proven parents but that means nothing til they are proven over time and they mature.

Sorry,  I certainly don't want to insult you, but all you have now is potential with some training. LONG way from a true PP dog. Long, long way.

Thanks gsdlvr2,

Having never met Naya, your opinion is not really that valid. Once you meet her, then base your opinions. I wish I had the kind of money to buy all of my dogs titled...I don't, so I'm doing what should be done. Using some elbow grease and hard work.

by gsdlvr2 on 19 September 2007 - 01:09

now you are just being silly.

Elbow grease and hard work have their place and I DO give you credit  for you have done alot with her but I don't have to meet Naya to know what a real personal protection dog is. Like I said I think you have a nice puppy with potential. I give you credit for what you have done, but she is not finished, she is not yet a PP dog.

Not even close, and I don't have to meet her to know this.

My opinion is valid. I have  alot more experience than you.

Don't take this so personal....you can't claim to have a personal protection dog at less than one year old. You have a nice prospect. period. She is too young to be proven in the situations required to prove a PP dog.

We all want to believe our dog are invincible but they aren't. You would be wise to listen instead of getting upset. I am glad she made you feel secure in the situation you mentioned but I can think of many situations that are worse. You put yourself at risk if you think you have "arrived" with Naya as a PP dog. She just isn't there yet.

I'm not going to get into this on a PUBLIC forum. So, I've said my piece, I'm done...You've won...Happy now? It's not worth my time to fight.

Way to go Naya!  She did what she was supposed to do under the circumstances and that's what REALLY matters.

Thank you Policemom!!!! I sure was pretty damn happy with her! The guy kicked the hell out of her in the ribs, but the plucky little turd held on, until I was far enough away to call her off safely. DON'T WORRY, I took her to my vet the day after, he said she was fine, no damage done, besides bruised ribs, so my daughter (Naya) and I are taking our work easy. THANKS AGAIN, POLICEMOM!

YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!

I've had rescue mutts that would rip the face off of anybody they didn't like or even thought of coming near our car or family or property.  PP training be damned. 'Cuz sure as hell I didn't have any! LOL

GSDLUV2 I was reading the post and read your comments maybe Naya would understand better if you told/went in to details on why you think her dog is not ready yet. Can you define what a PPD is? What training doing you go though to have a personal protection dog?

Thanks EK, but I understand just fine, I just don't have the money to buy titles, much less titled dogs, so I do things, like you, the old-fashoned way. Personally, I would love your imput, any information you have to offer. Heck, you can email me privatly too, you have the address. By the way, thanks for the comments on those Naya and Dani pictures I sent to you, and yep, I'll SOMEDAY be able to get Danica to stack...LOL, SOMEDAY! Talk to you soon!

Most dogs will protect to some form let it be a Warning dog  to the  Man stopper. Depending on WHAT the owner is wanting and wants to be responiable for! is what it comes down to.

LOL Ok, Yes I am old fashion when it comes to a lot of things training being one. I don't think titles are a end to all.  Many great dogs are never seen or heard of due to they are doing work and not on the field earning titles. My belief is SHOW ME THE DOG WORKING  that is more important to me (personally) then any title (as now days too many weak dogs are getting "titles").

I think every one has thier own opinion on what Personal protection means. Mine will vary from everyone elses to some degree as I am harder on my dogs then most.

At a year old Naya did great in my opinion She did what her mother said to do and she did it to her best. With time and when she is physically -Mentally ready to do more advance work then you add to the training. Training should NEVER stop just because she is doing good at this or that or has her Schh 1 or 3 title. Training is always a on going thing. Hell my 9 year just learned how to do narcotics.

Personally I don't buy other peoples Hard work. I like you (Naya Mom ) put in the hard work and sweat. I many never get to Nationals or ect but I know my dog in side and out and I can say I trained him! which means more to me. Besides too many beginners are buying titled dogs WHY  cause they do not want to invest the time of training or want to learn, hell why do all that when you can buy a titled bitch and start popping out puppies!!!! Buying titles dogs makes it all to easy to for people  and we wonder why we see so many ads for 1000's of puppies

Go to web sites posted on here for ads and ask them IF they titled the dog? I bet it will surprise you IT DID ME!!!!!
