I thought there was another dog that you couldn't really see, I can see them both in that picture though, thanks for the clarification

Abhay-- thats fine...believe me , if i did'nt have kids or 3 dogs already, my hubby would be coming home to me saying, look at my new dog!...but i really..really ...can't do that anymore....this is my hubby's grandpas property we live on....the last dog i took in was the one that almost killed his dog, he put his foot down and said no more dogs!...I would love to put a fence up, and i plan on doing that soon...right now we are trying to build a house, little by little, katrina put a giant tree on mine, so now we are living in the top of a barn and converting it intto a house (lucky my hubbys a carpenter) but its gonna take a lot  of money, that i don't have, to fence in 5 acers...

Abhay, love the pics! Pits are by far the most popular dogs here in Duluth, MN. You can't walk anywhere without seeing them, probably because alot of people are low income and pits are pretty cheap around here, with or without papers, starting at $100, $200 tops. My gsd pup is 7 months and loves playing with some local pits, ranging from 2 months to 4 or 5 years. My sister in Oklahoma has a rednose and just loves her. I think they are so cute but wouldn't want one fighting my dogs.............My male gsd actually didn't mind friendly advances from a tail-wagging year and a half male pit. He usually wants to fight everybody but likes Jake.

Thanks ilovemygsdnenz, You are so Correct! The breed is so overbred and they just wont stop breeding the poor dogs. Since this Michael Vick thing, it seems the responsible people are trying to get out and give their dogs away. The bad element continues to breed and the Vick thing just added to their numbers.

iluvmyGSD, I can see your dilema. Maybe your husband can put up some type of enclosure just around the house. That way you can let the children play outside and keep the strays on the outside.

Here is a picture of our Pit Bull/Lab mix when we first got him.

Here is another picture of him giving our new addition some love nibbles.

Sorry it came out kinda big, and a little blurred. I wouldn't give this big ham up for nothing!!! If you saw him in person he absolutely looks Pit Bull mix. I take him everywhere with me, and some people ask if he's all Pit, and other's just stay away when I tell them he is fine, and if he wasn't he wouldn't be allowed in public.

Abhay,

Your Pit is really, really nice looking. I also didn't know that Pit Bull's can have blue eye's.

iluvmyGSD,

I'm glad to hear the dog is no longer around. I do agree with Abhay tho. I would definately fence in a small area that joins up to the house so you don't have to worry about the stray's that linger around.

Kelly,

When it comes to dogs I thought I'd seen it all, but I have never seen a dog colored like yours. Am I seeing things or is that big boy Black and then Brindle as well?  I've seen Black & Tans in many different breeds, but your boy seems to be black but where other dogs would be tan yours seems brindle. He's a real showpiece!

KELLY- havent seen a brindle in a long time! brings back memories, one of my long time friends had a brindle female when we were kids, was one of the sweetest dogs a can remember...her name was sugar....but back the no one could afford to get dogs fixed and she ran loose to, poor thing stayed preggy, thats how i remember her--fat and preggy....i don't remeber how she died but i remeber us kids being very upset about it....... oh , yeah....i see your pup has doggie slobber on it...lol...my poor ratty daisy stays like that from boss, i have to wash her constantly to get his doggie breath/slobber off of her....

and yall, thats my plans for a fence...start right around the house and expand little by little as i can afford it....i plan to make a wood one since sometimes we can get left over/ used  wood for free from job sites...i just have to treat it myself...wood sealer maybe?

Yep, that's my bubby!!! He is Brindle. His sides have the tiger stripe's. He absolutely loves our new little girl!! He is a character as well. He doesn't know how to play with other dog's well. What I mean by that is I think he was just left tied up in the back with out companions at all, so he's very vocal, and the dog's don't all understand it. He's not mean to them at all, just doesn't know how to play very good. He's funny to watch when he play's by himself . He runs around the house and yard grunting, flies up in the air and tries to body slam me(his chest is actually in my face), and then just misses me and takes off grunting and running. I don't know what I would do with out him now. I have tested him on a puppy tug, and he almost popped my shoulder out! I gave him the tug!!!

I didn't read all of the posts above, but I will comment anyway.  I have a Hav-A-Hart live catch trap that I purchased to catch Coyotes that I believed were killing and eating my chickens and geese.  Well, I actually caught a Pit.  I don't think that she was the culprit doing the killing of my fowl as it continued.  But anyway.  This female Pit was very hungry and a wonderfully nice dog to me and my family, but wanted to kill my female dogs.  So, I contacted a Pit Bull rescue and they took her in.  I had her for two weeks and was going to keep her until she went after my very old female.  A very sweet dog except for her aggression towards my females (which many dogs have).  Many Pits are like ex-cons.  They have had a different environment and sometimes live by different rules than we have taught other breeds.  Raised appropriately, they are no different than other medium and large breeds, except for one thing.  IF they do fight, they are much better at it than your average dog.

Bottom line.  Catch the dog, in whatever (can't be too hard with a few chicken wings, etc), and cage it up, feed and water it, and find it a home, far away.  Any owners near you have forfeited their rights to the dog, through their neglect of letting it roam and cause concern and discomfort to others.

The dog would probably make someone a wonderful pet, if they taught it manners.  Those live catch traps work well for dogs, not so good for coyotes and fox.  They are just too smart for them.  I have never caught either in the trap, but they are around.  I have caught cats, dogs, racoons (the same dang one several times, until I took it 30 miles away and let it go), and opossums.  I have found the coyote and fox tracks in the snow, right up to the cage but never inside it.  My wife keeps asking me what I would do if I caught a coyote.  I still don't know.  Probably just let it go.  It's kind of a hobby now, trying to catch the elusive and wary.

DR&FNO, I think your suggestion of catching the dog & calling Pit Bull Rescue is a good solution.
