CONGRATS Krista, and Naya!!!

That title is a lot of dedication and hard work involved to get a title like that. I know because I put my old girl and her son thru it. I wasn't able to do the last test tho, because my work uped{spelling} my hours and couldn't do one last test for them to get the title.

CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!!

I know how great this is - I too have a GSD certified as a therapy dog, by TDI(not an easy thing to get at all). She's now retired, but doing the therapy work is just so rewarding! I went to a number of nursing homes, did some hospice and even was involved with the public school senior mentor program (it was a program for emotionally challenged young teens - we went to the nursing home with my girl and they used her to learn how to start conversations with the elders...very cool).  There will be some days that will be a bit sad or upsetting but for the most part, it makes you feel great , and the dog just seems to thrive on it. My only problem all those times with Harley was that she was very fascinated with the yellow tennis balls that they put on the end of the walkers.....! Oh, I use to "dress" her up a little - I was able to get a set of big pearls that I would put on her when we went for our visits - there she'd be with her red harness and her pearls - the little old ladies absolutely LOVED it.

Enjoy this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!  I  have been trying for weeks to find a local evaluator at a time that i could be there.  I especially want to take my girl to the local VA hospital.

Thanks again, So much! I'll get some Hospital Pictures, with my baby daughter with her new patients! Thank you all again, and yes, I know, not all dogs are cut out for it, much less being a cert. Therapy Dog AND my Personal Protection Dog.

Thanks Capt. Max, you truly made the world's most noble, hard-working, and variety-of-jobs breed.

I think if he looks down, I think he'd be pretty happy seeing his breed (as MOST of us do it justice, Good breeders, Enthusiasts, The Breed Lovers in General!)

I just found this thread. Congratulations to both of you! Wonderful news. I have a question, forgive my ignorance here, but what exactly did she have to pass to get this?

by gsdlvr2 on 15 September 2007 - 13:09

No one knows what she has to pass to get this certificate ? Naya's mom?

Dogs have to pass a series of tests, at LEAST three times to CERTIFIED, they also must pass EACH test, WITHOUT ONE PROBLEM, OTHERWISE THEY FAIL, and must start the tests all over again. You can view the requirements on the TDInc website.

I am proud to say, Naya did not fail ONE PART of her "exams" and only needed the required three tests and was certified.

Krista:

First of all congratulations to you and Naya.  That is great and the evaluator really seemed impressed with both you and Naya.

Tomorrow Molly and I are taking the CGC and TDI (Therapy Dog International) version of the test.  I found this on the internet about TD - but am unsure if this is what you and Naya just completed?  http://www.golden-dogs.org/test.cfm  If It is it is similar to the requirements of TDI, but subtle differences.  One main thing is you only have to pass TDI - one time to pass - but they are very strict about the age.  They will not award a TDI to a dog less than 12 months of age.  A friend of mine took   the test last year and his dog was 9 days short of his 1rst birthday, so he had to take the test again.

Again, congratulations!

Cheryl

Close to what Naya and I had to do, but we had to do it three times, at seperate intervals. Three times was the MINIMAL that you had to do the complete testing. Luckily, the evaluator was impressed with both Naya and I that we only needed the minimal. TDI is VERY different from TDInc. They are NOT to be confussed, because like you said, some places TDI is NOT flexable, TDInc is and some places where TDInc is NOT flexable, TDI is. Yes, they are very different!!! Anyway, let us (or me) know how you did, I'd love to hear from you, if you want to email privatly,

Good Luck to you, and I hope to welcome the both of you to the Therapy Dog world!

One NOTICABLE difference between the TDI and TDInc. test is that Naya and I had to be 2 feet away from the other dog/handler not as many as 15ft, as on the test you provided a link to. Also, FOR ALL AREAS OF THE TEST for TDInc. the dog was allowed ONLY ONE command, not multiple, and of course, we couldn't reposition the dog.

Other than that, I think the objectives of the TDI test are pretty good. They seem a bit lax, but you said they were so strict on the age, that isn't cool, not at all. If a dog's 9 days from his 12month b-day, they should've given it to him...Oh well, REMEMBER, HAVE FUN WITH YOUR DOG, OTHERWISE IT ISN'T WORTH THE HASSLE!!!!
