It is only my opinion - would be interested to know what rating the dog actually got and how old he is. As I said, the x-ray is as perfect in positioning and exposure as it is probably possible to get. Absolutey straight - this enables the evaluator to know that what they are looking at is true - one hip doesn't look better/the other worse because the positioning is crooked, and fuzzies might not be arthritis, might be poor exposure or focus.
I see hips that should be seated better in the sockets - they are "ok" but should be tighter. If this is a youngster, this could be normal. Adult, then the rating could be affected by the laxity shown. Also, the femur heads should be smoother/rounder - there is flattening of the heads, and corners where there shouldn't be corners. Also the left hip (seen on the right side of the x-ray) - the neck of the femur has some thickening to it compared to the other one. These things are why I guessed Fair, or maybe moderate if the evaluator was being picky.

D.H. Do you by chance know how many points are added to the HDZW for a dog that is A-Fast Normal and NZ?
Just as an aside, I had my dog X-rayed at 18 months in Germany and he received Hips A-Fast Normal. At 36 months I redid the hips in the US and my vet thought possible Excelent but definitely Good. They came back OFA Good.

my one experience with NZ hips was when I purchased a female, pregnant, who was V-Schh3,KKl-1 NZ hips - really nice female in every way and sound, no problem with lameness etc, bred to an excellent male - took a chance on her. Puppies were nice, and ended up all having good hips. But before breeding her again, I had her x-rayed - her hips were terrible - one probably severe, the other not quite that bad but dysplastic. She came back OFA Moderate. I spayed and placed her. Never will do that again. Another female I imported with fast-normal hips, she was 6 years old - before breeding her I x-rayed her, her hips looked SUPER, and came back OFA Good.

I have not seen near enough x-rays to make any judgement at all. I would be interested to know more about this one so I can try to get better at reading x-rays.
D.H. Would you please give your input? I don't need to know who the dog is, unless you want to say. I would like to know about the x-ray, pros, cons, good, bad, and what the rating was.
Thanks.

Dh Thanks for the info but every pedigree I pull up has fast normals and I just looked at one a minute ago and alot of the kkl dogs have fast normal hips.....
Fero vom Z Himmelr has fast normal and on the other thread HD I listed a whole bunch who have fast normal
There is a dog for sale on site out of Barbel VOm Olschnabel with three nz on the 2n d and 3rd gen...
I keep finding more and more fast normals lots of them so DH if Im suppose to believe that they shouldnt be breedable, coming from germ , chech, Neth or Belg and lots of NZ in mega pedigrees........who do we believe
Mystere says they shouldnt be bred "they are not fair" what are they?????????? Jantie answered me on other thread and said Jeck v Nor is a HD3 and he is known to be the trouble behind the Quantum bad hips question...... or one of them......I have a german pedigree with Jeck and mine says "a" Z

Rose, the best answer to your questions are - it depends . Some fast normals and NZ's get OFA clearance, some don't. Jeck received an NZ rating from the SV, but who can say that he wouldn't have got an OFA fair or good (or that he would have). The OFA stats seem to support that the better the hips in the pedigree, the better the chance of getting normal hips in the current generation, but that isn't 100% either. Sometimes it just seems like the luck of the draw.

Oh I know all this I m just now getting into the study of all the fast normals and nz because of what Janite and several others havae said...and the more I look at pedigrees ,,,the top ones all have many fast normals and nz in them.......some of them are fn
This is a learning experience for me...Ive know about hips for years....Jane Stefenhagen and I have hashed out hips everytime I turned aroung for three years after I bought Dieter out of Pirol and Cassie a Jada v SteffenH girl
I have an ofa excel hip girl in Galveston and one of the vets , there teaches at extension of A& M and he uses Cola's xrays in class ..He says they are the best Hip xr he has seen in many a year.......and he is in his 50's and I miss his expertise....
Ill post them when I get them in my hand......and behind her are ofa goods and then you get to Weithurchen and Buscecker Schloss and there are some Fast Normals right in the third generation on one side On Fluss tal there are also....
I know Its a Crap shoot... what I am after is the study like DH knows and a lot of the german people on here or people with the pedigrees (iOriginals ) that we can refer to.....I havae my dogs but in looking at these pedigrees How do breeders make statements of the =best of hip pedigrees and claim to have only bred titled and kk1 dogs full of Fast normals and NZ ?
Im just trying to learn the past and put it with the present.....I seem to see , it is if the stud proves himself...but still a proven stud if bred to Jane Does female can pull back 10 years ago and a bunch of bad hips come out...or one here and one there.... Like mr Pirol did....

DH: SG Sagus Busecker Schloss has fast normal hips and was bred to a NZ female Flora vom Oostweg
Was that a good choice?
