Here's another picture I took of Trigger yesterday. Does it look like he has a dip in his back or am I just used to seeing the showline humps? At least he doesn't drag his ass on the ground when he trots :-)  And no making fun of the long hair. I haven't told him he's a coat yet :-)

i have a long coat too and i think he's gorgeous - everyone we meet thinks so too. we weren't looking for a long coat when we got him, but i couldn't be happier. we don't show or do shutzhund, just plain old pet people. he (and our bel mal) are always in some kind of on gooing obedience training, but we don't compete. i would absolutely welcome another long coat into our home someday, or a standard coat. i actually kind of like the grooming too, but not the vacuuming! if i can ever figure out how to post a pic i'll show my beautiful boy. btw, he is neutered; we don't breed, but i'd hate to see the long coats ever disappear.

angusmom, you have no fear that they will disappear, To many VA and High V carry the gene's. I actually think more of them carry the gene than not.

It just sets my hackles up, when breeders sell them and take your money, and do not tell you, they are now going to treat you like a 2nd class citizen and you should be embarrassed to own your dog, when you take your dog in public, If they are a REAL GSD person, they will laugh at you. They should be making people feel good about  their dog/new family, Their sire and bitch created it and will be doing it again. They will be looking for new buyers for the LONG COATS, do you see them giving them away?

So if you have a problem with the LC'S, I think it only fair, in THE BREEDER'S CONTRACT you state,

You now are a 2nd class citizen, I have the right to advise you, your dog is worthless and can not breed, you can not show it, do not take it in public, do not do obedience trials, agility, sar, dance. police work, or any other fun activity with your dog and if you do, for heavensake do not tell anyone and above all else, DO NOT LOVE YOUR DOG< the sv, akc, ukc, do not allow it.
I take paypal, cash, wire transfere's, money orders, your check has to clear the bank before I will release the puppy, and I will ship..............

Let me correct you on that 1doggie2... The only thing the LC (long stock and True LC) cannot do is get a breed survey and be bred...They are still considered GSDs and can whatever any GSD can do except breed... Think of it as having one on the OLD TYPE GSDs that has WOLF coat on it... I was even told that even if you breed a goat to this type of GSD... it will still look like a GSD... Just kidding... We're not allowed to breed them unless we are trying to accomplish something important for the breed.

Have a nice day ... Marci  :)

Does anyone knows any FACT the the GSD was interbred wioth the wolf in the founding days of the GSD???  Back to the days of the Phylax Society..?

Reno, was that at Hegins Valley?

If so, me and my dog were your "dummie pair"

marci, I am sorry you mistook my statements (humor), I understand the rules, for  LC, I could care less about them/ for a stock coat , I care very much about rules.  I just happen to think the Breeder's who have sold them should support them for what they can do and not get stuck on what they can not do. I feel horrible for the people who come on this board who have purchased a LC for the first time and are made to feel their dog is not worthy. Shepherd Women is my hero, she is right out there with it, and she loves her dog and is having a great time of it and is a proud GERMAN SHEPHERD OWNER.

1doggie2, i knew that if both parents have the recessive gene, there's a good chance for at least 1 long coat; i just hate hearing the really negative talk about them. i wouldn't breed even if my angus was a standard coat; it's not something i'm qualified to do. i wouldn't mind if there were a lower price for them tho .  i have to admit, the big fuzzy long coat pups are a joy to cuddle. our bel mal likes her "pets" and "pats", but she's just not the cuddler angus is. i do have an important question for anyone - what kind of vacuum cleaner does the best job with all the hair???? i have a big kenmore, and i bought 2 handheld for spotcleaning, but i'm afraid my vacuum will just die one day from overuse. before we got angus, it may have died from boredom lol. any tips on a Good vac from anyone would be appreciated.

Dyson is my vote for the dog fur.  There is a thread on here somewhere regarding the best vacuums.  Let me see if I can find it.  :)
