Tina Barber wanted a dog different from the standard, or different from the way she saw people interpreting it.  So she developed a new breed.   I can respect the way she went about it.   What she did takes a lot of work & was a labor of love for her.  She didn't start breeding dogs to make money.  They were not a means to that end.

If people don't like the existing GSD standard they do have choices.  They can work within the breed clubs to change the standard, or they can choose to do what Tina did.  She did not thumb her nose at the existing standard, ignore it & purposely breed dogs that did not conform just to suite her taste.

The other thing Tina did was a ton of research.  You can bet she understands bloodlines, recessive/dominant traits - all things genetic, & she learned all this stuff before she ever bred a dog.

Whether anyone likes it or not, these RTT dogs are being bred soley because they are related to RTT.  That's the wrong reason to breed.

Since you all brought it up...  What are the Standards for Shiloh Shepherds ?  And who Wrote them ?

Are Titles or at least CD's required before breeding ?

What about the size issue ?   Who is monitoring that ?  200# dogs don't last long.

The requirements for the different types of papers/breeding certificates are here: http://www.shilohshepherds.info/issr.htm#Types

Please see my post above for the breed standard, written by breed founder, Tina Barber.

patches, I owe you an apology, I did not mean to misdirect this post and honestly my response when I said "you"  was not really directed towards you personally and I should have said "we" or "I" because I meant simply that your (someone other than me) opinion of breed improvement is different than mine.  It doesn't make me right or you wrong, or vice versa.  The WHOLE topic, puppy mills, RTT, breed standard, is almost purely subjective.  About the only objective part of a standard for dogs, which is usually NOT in the parent clubs breed description is weight.  But all that aside, I did not mean to attack you or change the topic of the post, for that I apologize.

For those interested, I can assure you that Rin Tin Tin is Not a puppy mill.

For the record, including the litter born last Saturday, we have produced only two litters in the past three years and have sold a total of six puppies.

The majoriity of our puppies are placed in working homes as Service Dogs, Pet Assisted Therapy Dogs, Search and Rescue Dogs. We had an SAR dogs at the Pentagon and in Oklahoma.

I have been directly involved with the breeding of the Rin Tin Tin bloodline for 50 years. My Grandmother acquired the bloodline directly from Lee Duncan with his endorsement and assured him that the line would continue as he desired and according to the standard of the 1950s.  We have accomplished that.  For those who are not aware, Rin Tin Tin IV was a grandson of Odin. The dogs produced today are in that image in all aspects.

The breeding program is closed and NO breeding dogs are sold under any circumstances, ALL puppies are placed on a spay/neuter agreement.

Faithfully Yours,

Rin Tin Tin,

Miss Daphne Hereford

Thank you VERY much Mrs. Hereford.  I was very upset to see all the bashing of your kennel on the post I started.  I certainly did not intend for that to happen as the intention of my post was to pay respect to, as someone put it, the "ambassador" of our breed.  People on here are very opinionated.  Some are ill informed.  I appreciate you taking the time to post your side of the story, and again I apologize if your feelings were hurt by some of the posts.

People this is what I meant when I said you never know who is reading these posts.
