Live4, I hope you continue to post your detailed genetics data. I agree with your point that by exposing a possible way to introduce the white color through cross breeding is valuable because it forces one to question the validity of the claim of pure bred GSD.
Playing devil's advocate, it is a possibility that the panda mutation is a natural mutation of a pure GSD. On the pandashepherd web site, the breeder lists testimony from some fellow at UC-Davis. It's got his contact info. Has anyone called or emailed this professor to verify the story?
I'm thinking of sending Mrs. McCann an email myself, asking her why none of her panda shepherds conform to the "illustrated panda shepherd standard" she posts on her web site. At least she admitted the illustrations are from Linda Shaw and not her own making. Speaking of Linda, does anyone have her contact info? I wonder if Mrs. McCann got permission from Linda to use her illustrations for her panda breeding business. Copywright infraction???
I created a thread asking if anyone has seen a panda shepherd doing SchH, and I've yet to find a positive response to the original claim. Panda police K9's? Panda bomb dogs? Panda assistance dogs? Anything? Perhaps I should have specified a broader definition of "utilitarian".
Tongue firmly in cheek,

Mixed with a corgi? Yeah....have you ever seen corgi mixes? or a corgi for that matter? Their mixes are very distinct and recognizeable. Not only that but I tend to think that the german lines have shorter legs than most of the other dogs actually - if you look at the standard in the captains book they (and I have to say the panda's) are leggier and less boney than what I see in 95% of the advertisements on this site.
I hate to point it out...but if the standard is so holy and absolute....then why are people breeding dogs with a roach when the standard calls for a straight back (SV and FCI) and why are we breeding for overly angulated dogs with a wobbly trot when the standard calls for a smooth gait (AKC)?
additionally has anyone tried to contact the geneticist who they cite in their paperwork on the panda shepherd website? The man (Mark W. Neff) works at UC.Davis as a Geneticist in the Canine Unit - has a Ph.D in Genetics from UVA and a Post Doc in Canine Genetics from UC.Davis. I hate to say it....but I would have to say he is all likelihood more knowledgeable about all of this than anyone here...even those with genetics programs. He even gave his email address and phone number in case anyone had querstions...so the big question would be....has anyone who is *convinced* that this is a cross tried to contact him?
Just my thoughts.

Looks like what can happen to you if you don't keep your females under lock and key when they're in season, doesn't it?
Seriously, when I was a USA Breed Wraden in CA I was called to inspect a litter with two pups that looked like the puppy on the first listed site named "Unique" once. I knew the breeder. No "accidents" suspected by either myself or the USA tattoer. The litter was by Buck von der Pfalz (USA National Ch., WUSV team, etc., Illya Swarzen Zwinger son)
Of course the breding was never repeated!

"This is just wrong.
Go look at the males & females on this BREEDERS web site.

Blech. Right in my neck of the woods too.
It looks like they're going around and collecting every color and coat type that they can find. Those are some unattractive dogs. On their female page, "Tonka" looks like a Husky mix.

I think that's waht the breeder did, in fact.
First time I ever heard of a GSD named "Blaze..."
