Sunsilver, did you notice that Kinzel uses a pyrenees to guard his sheep? His GSD's tend, the pyr guards. I think there are a few people on this board who have trained with Kinzel and put HGH titles on their GSD's.

blitzen I gave my dog hgh and he hit 76 homeruns last year .......for those of you not familiar with Baseball, HGH is a human growth hormone

From what I read not much training is involved in a livestock dog. Mainly genetics and being raised with the sheep etc.

Yes, I noticed, Blitzen. Just thought I'd let the herding expert speak for himself. Susan Sullivan herds. I've forgotten her login name on this site, though. There was a thread about a picture of her dog, Jazzman O'Firethorn a week or so ago. I'll see if I can dredge it up.

DC-- "never let anyone outside the family know what you're thinking" First thing you've said that coincides with your handle. I'm from NY and had many friends growing up that your 'handle' makes me reminisce. I haven't been around for awhile and just started reading some of the threads. I saw the other posts about AP and maybe jumped the gun. Sorry about that. AP is an acquired taste---You get to know him/her and realize he/she's OK.

DC I think you may own the first HGH enhanced baseball playing GSD in breed history. Badda bing, badda boom......that should at least double his value as a stud dog LOL.

Blitzen can you post a couple of links to breeders who are actively breeding Guardians for the work? If I have clients or friends looking I would like to be able to steer them in th right direction.

I think if I were you and looking to help out some clients find a good sheep guarding dog, I'd contact Ulf Kinzel or another professional shepherd who uses guard dogs. He could probably give you some recommendations. Maybe he is reading this thread and will respond to it himself.

Some excellent info on herding here: http://www.justshepherds.com/working.htm (Scroll to bottom of the page.) There is also a pic of Sue's Jazzman herding. Her login name here is Firethorn.

That was Ulf's homepage I linked to above. And, as already noted, he uses Great Pyrenees as flock guardians, and GSD's for tending. http://www.whitecloversheepfarm.com/sh-home.htm
