Sunsilver

Thank you. She's pretty much back to her usual self, leaving paw prints 6 1/2 feet up on the patio door when she's waiting to come in to be fed.

BTW, as you probably know, there is a gene that predisposes dogs to mammary tumours. It's the same marker gene as the one in humans. Something to think about if you're planning on doing any more breeding....

Good luck with the spays. I'm sure your vet is a lot better than the hack who nearly killed Star when I had her spayed!

She turned 9 in January, is extremely healthy and has never had a lame day in her life. Up until last summer she was doing the A-frame and window jump at training with no trouble at all.

SS- 'BTW, as you probably know, there is a gene that predisposes dogs to mammary tumours. It's the same marker gene as the one in humans. Something to think about if you're planning on doing any more breeding....'

Haha. I knew that was coming...
The first female who was ten when she developed mammary cancer was not related to the imported dogs except that she was a gsd. The other two females had no common dogs in their pedigrees until one went back many generations. So definitely not a FAMILY thing unless you count quando v Arminius many generations behind these old females. No, aside from being over ten years old when the tumors appeared, the only significant thing in common was the fact that none were spayed..
BTW, why bother spaying any female to prevent mamary cancer if its only genetic? Spaying females is recommended for ALL breeds, regardless of who they are related to, because estrogen is the catylist.
Did you know that cancer does not discriminate? Nice try, but you are barking up the wrong tree sunny!
