Entering them had to do with ego, they couldn't complete the distance because of injuries. I have the video tape of that iditerod race, and the interview with the person driving the team. If I remember right, the driver was not the owner. There was controversy about those dogs even entering the race, by seasoned mushers who knew what the outcome would mean for the dogs. They were days behind the other teams. Dogs should not have been put through it. Rules are much more strict nowadays, about qualifying to enter.

Whatever you say, Joan.

"Vk, how old is your female? She's buff and I bet a force to be reckoned with."

she will be 3 this year, she has taken over as my strike dog. I am very happy with her conformation, perfect for my terrain and vegetation. the mother throws a bit heavy built as can be seen in the male her litter mate, doesn't look it but he is bigger than my GSD, so I put a whippet cross in there to produce her, turned out about right.

super fast, great nose, not a brain in it's head. going to get herself in big trouble one day. literally a missile with teeth and no idea of self preservation, good vocals, barks on pursuit.

normally a pack hunter that is that far in front of the other dogs would be a cull under old school rules.

she is also a sharp watch dog, not the sort of dog you would bite train - too much natural protection, zero tolerance for anything around her property, PITA.

old world dog, would rather loose a leg than have anyone touch her. the male is a bit more open in personality.

Oh, is she the one you tested with a decoy, where the dog almost got the guy by the family jewels? If that's her, she is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Love her build.

no that be the merle at the end of the clip, great PPD prospect, has the size and power to back it up, more stable in the head than her, they are litter mates.

he could not give a damn about a decoy more than 5m away, get up close and it's game on. typical of old school guard dog, does not care what the bad guy does over there just don't bring it here or you will get bit. I think you mean this clip as a pup;

Lol. Yes, that's it.
You describe my dogs when you describe him. Otto, Spree, Nelson are like that.

not a police dog make, but still.

my unholy triad in a dog is;

hunt, herd, protect - in that order.

I have tremendous regard for 'using' hounds. I enjoy listening to hounds baying on a hot trail, something primal about the sound and activity. Do yours bay?

by vk4gsd on 28 September 2015 - 02:09

not the same vocalisation as a coon hound, something halfway between a coon-hound and a normal dog. the black brindle vocalises on a cold trail the others only vocalise on a hot trail. the GSD does not vocalise. they have another vocalisation if they get trapped in the vines, which does happen, reason why I won't use cut collars/chest plates, the dogs get hung up in vines with them on + heat issues.

this is them vocalising on a pursuit;

and baying a treed cat, lol at the idiot GSD doing vertical jumps;

i asked the police once why they don't use hounds to pursue bad guys, mine would circle and bark (not bite), hard to stab a bunch of hounds. cop though i was nuts.
