Carlin

by Carlin on 17 January 2014 - 18:01

I liked the "likes" and "dislikes" This was an easy way to say "all right" or "no". Sometimes you don´t need to write an answer, yes or no simply is enough.
Showing the name of the "liker" or "disliker" might be a good idea, the "dislike fairy" at least would start to think about hitting the button.

Thumbs Up  - consider your post "liked".

If you aren't willing to sign your name to your opinion, I'm probably not interested in hearing from you to begin with.  Wink Smile

I too think some disliked the poster rather than the content and that was childish and not constructive, I am pro linking the like and dislike with poster's name although same thing will still happen except it will not be cowardly act.
Some members should know that people dislike the content they post and some posters better know their posts are being appreciated. I do not blame the administration for removing the options since some of the best contributors were harassed by the dislike option, however I second Susie's suggestion.

If you don't re-able the options we can make short posts with like or dislike @ poster (with reference to post, though it's not that appealing or handy. Just a thought

The problem is that you could get 100 people "like" a post and all it would take is 1 single "dislike" to trump any of the positivity. The negativity of the dislike button was focused on more than necessary.
No matter if you add the like button back or add a rating system, some people will still look at it as a popularity contest. Even with a rating system, you'd have to remove the down vote option or else
there would then be a new "fairy"!

For some people, the like and dislike buttons were easier to press as to say they agree or disagree without having to be torn apart for their opinions. For some others, they were never anything more
than some pixels on a screen.

Exactly, and as one person who had most of anything I posted disliked by some, it did not bother me. I knew who was behind it therefore it was not to be taken seriously. When I posted about an abused dog getting rehomed and dislike is hit and I know if was nothing to dislike, how could I get offended? I know nothing wrong in it to dislike so why get angry about it. You write it off and be a stronger person and keep on going. If a like/ dislike can make that much different in a persons day on a forum, this may not be the forum to be on because it has never been for the thin skinned person........ You can track posts with the like/ dislike and I found it a great way to mark posts I wanted to revisit. Is there something we can replace the like/dislike with that would also do that for us?

To find my own posts as suggested up top I go to my dog and click my name and view posts I posted that way. I am not on here much and it is a easy way for me catch up on things I was interested in but did not want to have to come look every fifteen minutes to follow something by using the like/dislike buttons. Wish there was maybe a track thread option?

I agree with Jen, it became an avenue for some to protest the poster instead of the content of the post!

actually, i kind of liked it.  if i really didn't have anything additional to add, i could show my support for
another poster.  yes, i do think some people abused it though.

Ibrahim,
that was a joke.......but glad you found a thumb never the less, Carlin led me to them.
I never use smileys so I never would have found them otherwise.

I think your all better off without the thumbs, you don't seem able to cope with them.
Well at least one individual had a problem coping or they would still be there.

I never in my wildest dreams thought anyone could possibly take them that seriously, but then again i have to remember where I am.

Apparently I was wrong.
