....Just because they got a bear and have dogs barking at it I highly doubt that it was a true bear bating to the death at a public dog show ...it was a show, I seen it before its used to be popular all over Europe...to show off dogs "fearlessness" ..last time i seen "bear bating" was in UK, one pissed off bear in a cage and dogs on leashes barking their heads off that was classified as part of culture, part of history a historic show .. it is a lot worse to see Bull fighting in Spain than this...besides even now in California rangers use dogs to "scare off" bears and chase them back to the woods....so you got 3-4 dogs chasing a bear into the woods how is that any different? dogs are not on leashes, bears are not in cages seems to me that is a lot worse than what being described as bear bating..

LF I've seen fairly recent video of bears being baited in the Ukraine, believe
me that was 'for real' (' course, I don't know whether that was the case with
the particular event in question !)
Certainly would not put it past "Four Paws International" to exagerate somewhat,
however !
Where & when did you see the 'history demo', Tower of London or somewhere ?
Just curious; hard to imagine even the limited illustration you describe being
legitimately sanctioned in UK without there having been some uproar against
it !

LF I replied to your PM, thanks.
Another thought just hit me about your post above; you talk
about dogs chasing a bear off into the woods ? Fair enough -
perhaps what I should also have mentioned in my description for
Ibrahim is that in traditional bear baiting, the bear cannot run
anywhere, 'cos it is chained to a post.

And don't forget in traditional bear baiting, the bears claws are pulled and in some instances the canines also, so the bear can't injure the dogs too much. Whether Royal Canin/Mars knew about the bear baiting or not, they may have wanted to investigate further what the trophies were for. Although a "bait and switch" in the business world is not that uncommon. I personally would have someone there to have an eyeball on the proceedings if my name was being used.

Mindhunt, I genuinely believe they will do so, in the future. They seemed
determined - in a very long email - to get the local offices to scrutinise
sponsorship applications much more seriously from now on. And they
did sound very upset and remorseful that this had happened, not trying
to big themselves up or make excuses for it.
