Turkey dogs have less fat so are less greasy and easier to handle. Good luck.

Thanks guys! Molly, Thanks for being so descriptive! As soon as the "soggy" fields dry up..And my harness gets here..Off I go! If I have any problems, you will hear from me again (which i am sure you will..), and when we are ready to move to step 2 I will let you know!!! there is a few areas that go "unseen", and I live in BFE, so the park is pretty much empty... Except in the evenings when it gets cooler in the summer/fall...
That is when the weirdo's come out, and My dog goes into "protection" mode while we walk alone. Once out of the trails, and back to the kids and public, he is happy go lucky again. It makes it nice, as he barks at the strange men that try to approach... and since he knows pass auf, and quiet, its nice to have that security blanket. I know he would bite for real if HAVE to, but I think the bark and "foaming at the mouth look" is deterrent enough.;-) Plus his size, and him being a long hair is intimidating as well. He is not quick to go off though, which I like. You have to be enough of a nusiance, or threat to our space for him to warn. He knows when to watch and guard, and when not to. I like it. I don't worry about him going psycho, and many gsd folks have admired his temperment. I feel good about that, and hope to take that to the end result I am looking for... A fun sport title! Wish me luck, and Keep the good advice comin!

U might shorten his tracks now like u just started and then when he slows, he will soon get the idea. I use colored leashes and the dogs know exactly what we are gonna do. Green ones are tracking , orange for obedience and red when we do bitework. Ive never used a harness, but it might work real well on an eager dog. Do u crate dog and let him watch u lay the track? My trainer told me to keep my mouth shut and only say suck and good and let the dog alone . Me keep quiet!!!That was a feat in its own.
