What I don't get is, we have a show forum and for the most part from what I have read the working - show line fights haven't been a problem.
by Blitzen on 16 March 2013 - 21:03
Thanks, Randy. Do you think there would be any interest in a FB account for showlines only? I'm getting accustomed to FB now and it seems to be the way to go.
by Blitzen on 16 March 2013 - 21:03
Are you talking about the conformation forum, GSD? It doesn't seem to be too active so maybe a name change to add - for all interested in discussions about all aspects of the GSL and ASL or. something like that. Just tossing around a few ideas.

I think the mods do an excellent job here. Do we really need babysitters?
Believe me Blitzen, I get just as tired of the stupidity of those that want to trash talk the showline dogs, whether they be American showline or German showline.
Everyone most certainly is entitled to their own opinions. Sometimes tho, the ignorance of some of the remarks made by the "fans of" gets sickening.
And I like you, do take it personal. But than my dogs are my personal dogs.
Yeah, we know German Shepherds are supposed to ""working dogs".
Some people think dogs don't belong in thd house, that Shepherds should not be family dogs, hell one person here, can't remember who thinks his dog only nedfs to eat 2-3 times a week.
I have working lines and showlines, I love them all.
I love the database. On very rare occassion, I check out a couple other forums.
One thing you will hear on numerous other forums is "the people on the datsbase are some of the nastiest, rude people."
People are afraid to post here, knowing someone is waiting, to make them feel stupid.
I guess we all can't know it all like some here. And hell, why bother traini.g or working your own dogs Blitzen, for the things YOU enjoy,
there are a fes folks here that have dogs that are the cats ass, plus, they take all the titles and notoriety of being the best trainers and best dogs out there.
And we know they are wrong about habing the best dogs, because I do..
I just don't understand the need for some of thesr people to try to steal the pride, or pleasure others get from their dogs, and thd venues we each choose to pursue.
I guess it makes some people feel good.

I still find FB confusing. It's scattered. I think FB drew some of the crowd from the forums as it gained popularity, but I get lost in the complexity of the site. There are two WDA groups that get a couple comments a day. Some, but not a lot of activity.
On the Greenboard, (gsdworld.net) Ravi has some excellent threads on his training techniques as he progresses through the training of his young dog. He's posted video's and is available to comment on what he's doing.

Randy, I know Ravi and like him very much, he does a great job with his dogs. I was rooting for him to take his first all the way to Universal Sieger. Good to know he's active on the green board. Yes FB can be difficult they way it is organized. I get confused with the way the posts are pushed to the top by the most current response and, as far as I know, there is no way to search for a specific message except to scroll through it all til its foungd. I do like some other things though like the ability to create albums.
Kitkat, I guess I just don't feel like reading anymore snide comments about anyone's dogs. It is rude and childish. I'm not going belabor it here, I just don't want to deal with it anymore. If there's enough interest I will give a FB account a trial stint unless something different happens here. Yes, I get similar responses from most of my friends with SL - post to the PDB? Are you nuts - they hate SL's there. I agree that this board has good moderation.

come on Blitzen, surely you're not going to let a simpleton run you off.
The important thing is you know what you have and what you like. And don't take offense if someone else doesn't like it. There are very few dogs that 100% of GSD people agree on 100% of the time. You mentioned Kevin, he and his s/l dog make a lot of folks seem pretty foolish. I don't recall anyone, w/l or s/l who has reached his level of accomplishments worried about other people's dogs.
I think the mods do a very good job but one still has to have some thick skin to hang around here.
best,
Rik

Blitzen I tire of the uncivilized discourse also, I read it go on unabated and it gets worse and worse. Such posts inspire me to respond and at least leave a record for intelligent people to make a decision. We will always have new people periodically find this forum and feel the need to assault something they do not understand. I have accepted this and the best way to deal with it is to let them know they are dealing with real people, remind them to keep the discourse civil and stick to and demand specifics. What dismays me is the people that should know better, they act as if their comments can not hurt and they lose any chance of making a point and changing minds. I sometimes think their motive is to have a hostile environment, chase people like you away so their rants can go on unabated so as to influence any novices that find this site to think that only working lines are GSDs. What I don't want is a forum where everyone agrees with me, I can take the admonishments from well reasoned posts. It is a shame the knowledge lost from top working and show people who will not post as a result of the uncivilized conduct from people who try to prove themselves their betters on this forum. What a treasure we have in the few who are still here. Blitzen you make a bigger impact than you think. Tempers also ran a little high this week as a result of the SV's unorthodox decision and led to posts that were over the top.

Dog1,
On the Greenboard, (gsdworld.net) Ravi has some excellent threads on his training techniques as he progresses through the training of his young dog. He's posted video's and is available to comment on what he's doing.
Do they discuss training for IPO on this forum? This may be something that would interest me if there are threads on tracking, OB, and protection work? I am probably a member there already but haven't visited in a long time. Certainly may be a worthwhile forum to check out, Ravi is a good guy.

Ravi is a good guy. And another who did pretty well with a s/l. Would like to hear from all the folks with a different opinion who maybe taught him some manners on the field.
He doesn't post here anymore, which is a great loss to the GSD community.
jmo,
Rik
