The BSZS VA1 test is what it is.  Can any of us change it.... most likely not.  If someone doesn't like the test, the dogs, ect., then stay clear of it.  But, do I think it represents what Max had in mind...no.  It does not test the true ability of the breed, but again, it is what it is.  If you don't like it, then don't go there, don't watch, don't use those dogs in your breeding program, don't buy a pup from them.  The people who take part in these events, breed these lines, etc. are happy with their results, so let them be happy.
For the others, like I for example, know what I like, what I'd like my GSD to be so that is what I "stick" with, which makes me happy.
Good discussion though.  Everyone has their opinion.  wink

I have watched this several more times, I love it. I can quite see why the police etc are using Mals more and more. A police dog handler I know had to have his GSD PTS a couple of months back. His new pup is a Mal.

Showed the vid to my OH, who loved it. Often thought of a BSD next time around, but TBH I think a mal would be too much dog for me.

Just awesome.

Brandi, I think basically you are right, and there is nothing that can change it, SL will go wherever the SV wants it to go, for better or worse.

Brandi, for the most part I agree to just let them be happy with these results, but the problem is that so many of these breeders are the same ones that turn around and *insist* their dogs can work.  They don't seem to understand that squeaking by a SchH title at a club level show is not really a selling point as far as a dog having a strong working temperament.  One day a breeder insists their dogs have legit titles and can work and the next day I see a dog run out of the blind during training, no pressure just absolutely refusing to engage.  Now we can't even say whether or not they are kennel blind because this test has become so watered down and such a joke it's impossible to get any reading on the dog's working ability.  If these dogs CAN work then why are these breeders not complaining that this test is a joke and not showcasing their dogs as it could and should?.......  Come on my dogs show me more about their training and temperament just loading in and out of my van than if I were to enter the show or do a breed survey.

I wonder how these helpers feel?  Is it not embarrassing to "work" dogs like this?  This BSZS helper almost looks like he's laughing during some of the tests.  Not slamming him but the test.  But I still wonder what it does for a helper's reputation to participate?  That's a genuine question (I'm not a helper so I have no idea how they feel about this)....
