(Sigh)   I understood what you were saying Nona.   Hang in there...............

Argumentative??? Seriously? I thought that was quite a civil response, Nona, and a nice explanation for why we all reacted the way we did. It was certainly worded much more carefully and civilly than any of the rest of us cared to take the time (or deep breaths) to do.

Not my business, but Nona, that was a bit of a defensive reply, esp. the part  about him not addressing you....I personally haven't noticed him addressing you in particular in any posts. Perhaps you're overthinking this a bit. My money is on SSG's not giving a rat's patooty about you. Maybe you don't realize how you come across on the vast majority of your posts. I would bet that's more the case than anyone really having a "personal" issue with you. Unless you know differently and are SSG's neighbor or something, I just didn't/don't see what you're talking about, FWIW.

Different localities have different laws -- my locality has a "Leash Law."    Even if your dog is totally  "under your voice control," that doesn't get around the Leash Law.    Just sayin'................

Uh oh, didn't mean for this thread to go in this direction.  I began it because the law (or ordinance) in our area just passed and has been on the local news.  It concerns tethering your dog in your yard.  In the past, people who didn't have fenced in yards tethered their dogs all day and authorities think that makes a dog more territorial and aggressive.  So, they decided that dogs could only be tethered on a 12 foot lead while the owner is outside with them.   We also have a leash law here and it applies to dogs and cats!  How many people do you know that keep their cats on a leash?  I'm sorry this caused some arguments to take place.

ggturner -- No problem; I certainly didn't think you were trying to start an argument.

Every "i" had better be dotted and every "t" had better be crossed when a Poster comments ---- OR some will take things the wrong way.   Oh, well............

Modulus Rex moderator comment: ggturner, there is no reason to apologize for starting a thread about an interesting topic with potential ramifications for all of us who own dogs.

So let's focus on the topic at hand here, which is whether a law requiring people to tether dogs on their own property is a good idea.

Also, posters need to understand that when they post on this messageboard, their opinions are subject to review and comment from others:  none of us get to post in a vacuum.  Sometimes the responsive comments will agree with the original point being made, and often they won't.  However, regardless of whether such responsive comments are favorable or not, so long as responses are not overly argumentative or too personal in nature they are within the Terms of Service and thus permissible.

Further, the moderators on this site are not going to step in and instruct certain posters to not respond to others, nor will we honor requests for such action regardless of whether such requests are made to us publicly or privately.  Our job is to try to keep the discussions at least semi-civil, not to jump into the sandbox every time there is a minor spat.  If Poster A can't stand Poster B, then perhaps Poster A is best advised to ignore Poster B, but in any event no poster here should expect the moderators to pick their side in a given argument and shut down disagreement.

This is the policy of this messageboard.

Thank you Modulus Rex.

Nothing personal against you Nona,  I just am one of those irresponsible owners that let my dogs off leash.

LOL :)

Anyone with common sense should be able to figure out that tying a dog where it can bite the mailman is a bad idea. Solution is simple IMO.....they dont get mail delivered. People have been tethering dogs as means of keeping dogs for thousands of years. It is not inhumane if done properly and for some it is the only viable option since there are dogs that simply can not be kept in a kennel. If I was a dog I would much rather be tethered on a long chain than in a kennel. Thank heavens I live in the country and in this country which is for the most part still free. Lets try and keep it that way as long as possible.

God bless America!

I've tethered my dogs at various time through the years.   The times I did not live in a place with a fenced yard.  Kennels were the exception, not the rule for pet dogs.   IMO it's still a good thing for them to learn now that I have fenced yards and kennels.   If needing to build/rebuild a fence or when camping are a couple that come to mind.  Not to mention needing to be tethered and left for a time frame during the BH.......
