Remember that thread we just had about READING? Seriously? I thought you two were a bit brighter than this. Read what I wrote and tell me what you have such a problem with. You think all vaccines are created equal? They all save lives? They are all worth the risk?
More laws for people like me? Yes, the government is working on that as we speak. It'll be fantastic when they tell us what to do in every aspect of our lives because it really is scary to have to make your own decisions about things, isn't it? You'll get your wish. It upsets them terribly when people do thorough research and make their own conclusions instead of doing what everyone else tells them to do. I wish I could believe that the government and the drug companies truly had my best interests at heart as well as my animals. But, for now, or at least until hell freezes over, I'll continue to research, investigate, research again, and make my own conclusions.
And now I have to go do something productive around this house because I have someone driving 13 hours to take a gamble on buying one of my unvaccinated dogs. Toodles.

Hey girlfriends, what it means is, if there where NO laws forcing you to vaccinate for rabies, you probably wouldn't. Tell me I"m wrong and I'll totally re-think.

I am not naive nor am I "undereducated"--I am an educator (Biology teacher). I also have a degree in medical technology and used to be the lab supervisor of a pathology lab that did research on all of the stuff in our food and environment to see what diseases may be caused by them. I choose to educate others, not belittle them. Ignorance isn't "bliss". Ignorance doesn't save lives, it puts them in danger.

I have seen vaccinated pups die from parvo and I have seen non vaccinated pups live. Not a scientific study but its my experience. I do not trust scientific studies unless I know all the details. Not all scientific studies are created equal and then there are politics involved. When one scientific studies' results contradict another's.....thats where politics come in and one wins out and gets published in the journal an the other gets buried. Anyway, I choose to not vaccinate pups or adult dogs.

This is obviously a very testy subject. i personally have seen the devastation and disease in the unvaccinated population. I choose to vaccinate my puppies, my adults, my children.
in fact i wish I had not been so slack and gotten myself a flu vaccination, if I had I probably wouldn't be so sick right now myself. The rest of my flu vaccinated household are well.

Sporty Guy regards parvo, the immunity is tricky with pups because of the timing from what is natural immunity from the mother. And if a pup survives Parvo, that isn't a test. Can you be sure there will be no health issues later?
I wouldn't take that chance.

Vaccines can fail for a lot of reasons, including that the vaccine was not maintained at a proper temperature, the pup did not really get it (I myself have had dogs move and go through the skin and out and squirt the vaccine out and not into the dog so that I have to use a second dose). There are rarely both humans and canines who do not sero convert for a variety of reasons, and as BT says, there is also the issue of the natural immunity conferred by the mother which can interfere with a proper immune response from a vaccination given at the wrong time. But, as she also notes, if I pup dies or survives is not a good reason to say one is not going to vaccinate. I wonder how other dog owners would feel being around dogs and pups that were not vaccinated for these common and very serious diseases. If someone ever has an incident where the dog is around an animal that was rabid and the dog has not been vaccinated in most states the dog will be put down summarily. Irresponsible behavior........
But there is little point in debating it because some will continue to make silly statements that they cannot back up with anything more than a rare adverse reaction, or some other anomaly.
Sorry you are sick imopaso. There is very good progress being made on the subject of a universal influenza vaccine, meaning that the way influenza mutates and how it attacks the cell is much better understood. Rather than having to worry about meeting each mutation, there appears to be a way to prevent attachment of the influenza virus to certain parts of the cell, regardless of the mutation. Feel better.
