My pup had his ears standing at 8 weeks when I got him.

And then the very day he lost his first tooth, his right ear started to wilt backwards...

But I happened to give him Bio-K (a probiotic yogurt-like product) for a couple days, for his stomach, and the ear straightened right up.
This is him a couple days ago, he is 16 weeks today.

I don't think it means anything other than your puppy has the genetics for strong ears, no different than tight feet or good pasterns. Hope you can keep us posted on this pup.

JRansom posted some very good pics of how the GSD grow faster in different areas.

99.9% of Am. s/l folks deal with poor ears and taping. All I know (including me when I had them) give glucosamine chondrotan (sp). The soft chews worked well for me.

JR, my puppy is 6 month right now so she still has some time to fill out that head and body...but I had a previous dog that had a similar build and she grew into her ears just like yours on the picture.
My pups siblings didn't have those large ears.
My puppy is just one of the long and lean teenies and I am confident she will fill out by the time she is 18 months.

JR:  Your pup  really did have  EARS

It is so funny when they look like that and then 18 mos later you have a nice full headed balanced dog with ears that point to the sky....kinda like that

To help with the diet for ears is to add   KNOX  GELATIN      not Jello...I guess Jello would not hurt but it has sugar in it...I think...

Knox Gelatin is what is used...like for our nails, etc...

too...
