Ulli, I had a dog that did the same thing when my children were babies. Amazing phenomenon! The "6th sense" abilities in dogs are obvious in these instances and similar cases such as a dog knowing when an epileptic is about to have a seizure, or a diabetic having a reaction, or even the prediction of cancer cells growing. Ostensibly, some canines have some special sensory responses.

I absolutely agree that dogs can and do use both internal and external cues to recognize certain times of the day when they expect something will happen but that wasn't the subject of my original comment.  That comment questioned dogs' ability to judge time lapse, that is, the amount of time that passes between two events.

Exactly Keith. So my next question would be, is boredom an emotion? Because that would mean a dog could develop a cyclical (biological) response probably, immediately upon being left alone especially if it happened at the same time each day.  Hypothetically, of course.
